Yee Haw Mee-Maw~! I’ve had my carry permit for about 10+ years now and renew 5 years at a time here in AL and will still renew for traveling into nearby/other states.
The first one they were really extremely backed up and took awhile for approval from the local Sheriff’s office . . . this was during the Obama years when everybody was getting one.
Then got my kids one when they turned 21, well daughter @ 21 and 3 1/2 years younger son, they changed it to 18 when he was about 19 so got it then.
I got my first permit in Montgomery in 1983. You had to jump through some hoops back then. My son got his when he was 18, but they did hassle him a little (Mobile County). He had to prove he was either a full time student or employed. That’s not actually in the law but we went with it (he was a full time student) and it only slowed the process by a couple of days. In Mobile we have an online renewal which is very good. I’m not sure if I’ll renew next time or not. I don’t travel except infrequently to Mississippi or Florida.
You know that is a great thought. I had not even given that a thought. Will Alabama offer permits even though you don't need one so that you can carry in states that normally honor your permit from your home state?? Lots of great questions coming from this.
Tennessee went Lifetime permit a few years before we went Permitless. I still carry my Permit badge, especially when I carry open.
