Trump's praise of Putin, 'America First' view tested by war

WASHINGTON (AP) — From the earliest days of his first presidential campaign, Donald Trump aggressively challenged the pillars of Republican foreign policy that defined the party since World War II.

He mocked John McCain's capture during the Vietnam War, validated autocrats with his platitudes, questioned longtime military and security alliances and embraced an isolationist worldview. And to the horror of many GOP leaders at the time, it worked, resonating with voters who believed, in part, that a bipartisan establishment in Washington had brokered trade deals that hurt American workers and recklessly stumbled into so-called “forever wars.”

But Russia's brutal invasion of Ukraine is posing a serious test for Trump and his “America First” doctrine at a moment when he is eyeing another presidential run and using this year's midterm elections to keep bending the GOP to his will. He's largely alone in his sustained praise of Russian President Vladimir Putin as “smart,” an assessment he reiterated last week during speeches to donors and conservative activists. His often deferential vice president, Mike Pence, split with him on the issue late Friday.

John Bolton says Trump will withdraw from NATO in his second term.

Let us hope that is true because there will be a second term.

The more these toads in the media trash him the more determined I’ll be to vote for him, because its obvious how frightened they are of him.

I’m probably not alone. These brainstems don’t seem to understand that.

He really lives in their pea brains, doesn’t he?

They’re utterly obsessed with him.

Meanwhile, it’s dancing girls and rainbow farts for the croaking husk Biden, who can do no wrong.

Really is amazing.

There are truly stupid people in the current administration, and in legacy media. It's a pandemic of Dunning-Kruger.

--- "He's largely alone in his sustained praise of Russian President Vladimir Putin as 'smart'...."

This is not a news item about Ukraine, Russia or Putin. This is the ongoing political campaign against Trump. Were I an attorney, I would recommend that such repetition in the guise of "news" be seen as an in-kind contribution to the Democrat Party.

Moreover, I will allege that all the evil people who have landed atop some political rule over a people are "smart" to the extent they got there. In this way, Biden has been "smart" as has Trump, Putin, Zelensky, Stoltenberg, Pelosi, Schumer, von der Leyen and more. Some have said that sociopaths and psychopaths seek for political office. Among the traits of those who seek and gain office, they are "smart" in that sense. The Associated Press is showing itself as so partisan that its "public relations" messaging should be challenged as in-kind donations.

John Bolton says Trump will withdraw from NATO in his second term.

Ironically its being in NATO that has stayed the US hand so far.

Imagine what the war pigs in Washington would do without that constraint.

Oh the irony. Liberals mock Conservatives for being uneducated, bible thumping, gun crazed idiots. Meanwhile, the only thing they get out of their education creds are group think by liberal professors, no critical thinking skills and a misplaced sense that they are smarter than anyone in the room with them. Basically Dunning-Kruger.

I recall every US president has said positive things about Putin. Obama and Hilary actually tried to get chummy with him.

I think I finally, now, understand what was behind the whole Clinton “Russia! Russia! Russia!” and Steele Dossier attacks on Trump, (pardon me if I am slow).

The plans of the Left had been in progress for a long time, by then. They depended on international forces like Russia and NATO. Absent the “Russian collusion” BS, I expect Trump probably would have begun the dissolution of NATO, an albatross around the neck of MAGA. The Steele Dossier turned that into mere increases from member nations.

The plans the Left had are going forward, now.

Bolton is a bitter liar. Trump would do no such thing.

Don’t let these fools focus on Trump while the current president caused this mess.

I totally support DJT and want to see him elected in 2024.

Yesterday I said for the first time, I don’t think he’ll be the nominee.

He shouldn’t have called Putin a genius I know the context but please that word should not have come out of his mouth.

And it’s not that I’m criticizing him for it (well I am actually because of the uneccessary political error) I just recognize the incredible desire of the media, democrats and GOPe to eliminate him.

This Russia War can position the GOP in a terrible place if they’re not careful. 75% of the public will be squarely against Russia on this.
