Russian Authorities Crack Down On Massive Anti-War Protests in Moscow
Daily Caller ^ | 02/24/2022 | Dylan Housman

Authorities in Russia are acting quickly to breakup widespread protests against President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.

Thousands of protesters have been seen in Moscow following Russia’s offensive against Ukraine, with smaller protests springing up in other cities across the country. Russian state media warned citizens that those who participate in unsanctioned protests will be “arrested and brought to responsibility.”

About 1,000 people at this anti war protest right now. These are taking away protesters indiscriminately. I was briefly detained even though I was saying repeatedly I’m a journalist. pic.twitter.com/C8ZdMLDWON

A large crowd was recorded on video gathering in Pushkin Square in Moscow, not far from the Kremlin, in an anti-war demonstration. Demonstrators were reportedly being indiscriminately detained, with some journalists also detained by law enforcement. A large crowd in St. Petersburg also gathered before law enforcement ordered them to disperse. (RELATED: Former Boxing Superstar Vitali Klitschko Says He Will Take Up Arms To Fight Against Russia)

Anti-war solo pickets like this are popping up in cities across Russia. It’s not much but they’re arrested almost immediately, often upon leaving their homes when the cops know to expect them. Here’s Sofya Rusova, co-chair of Russia’s Trade Union of Journalists. pic.twitter.com/5NVqdGyhFy

“Arrest Putin, Not Me” – A protester in Russia said during arrest.pic.twitter.com/JSlxNchUCd

According to protest monitor OVD-Info, nearly 2,000 people have been detained across 52 cities by Russian police. One protester being detained was seen on video saying “arrest Putin, not me.”

Russian popular sentiment appears to match that of Ukraine and the United States. An AP-NORC survey released Wednesday found that only 26% of Americans think the U.S. should play a “major role” in the conflict.

“Putin is a rogue, and his actions are illegal on the
international stage.”

The only thing that is really illegal is that which can be enforced.

Yes. Also just who is this “Ukraine” that belongs to Russia.
I’ve known Ukrainians for 40 years who absolutely despise Russia and Russians.
But some smarty pants here looked at a map or read a book or something and decided all these Ukrainians Putin is killing somehow “belong” to Russia.

Sad state of affairs.

I like how one of FR's most notorious Putinists is pretending to be sad and thoughtful about the war and violence he has been supporting in Ukraine since 2014.

Nonsense. It’s theirs. It’s always been theirs.

Irrefutable by anyone based in reality.

They took it back today.

Current assessments state Russia has failed their day 1 objectives, and despite claiming they have wiped out all of Ukraine's air defenses, there are still Russian jets and helicopters being shot down.

It's not over till it's over, Putin Fan Boy.

The CIA installed our stooge to replace a Russian stooge

Fake news! Yanukovich was beating people on TV, stripping them naked and leaving journalists with mush for faces for millions of Ukrainians to see, and that was even before the sniper fire! There has since been multiple elections in Ukraine with a super majority of Ukrainians choosing their own leaders and opposing Russian aggression, despite the constant nonsense out of Russia and the Putinists on FR that Ukraine is some kind of "Fascist Junta" controlled by the CIA.

Again, I am not a fan of Putin.

I am observing Russia’s assertion of what they believe to be their national interests in spite of the delusion neocons insist the world observe.

If Putin were deposed tomorrow I would not care and would not expect Russia to behave any differently.

Levin is just another neocon.

They just love historical analogies to Hitler and WWII.

It’s in their blood.

This is the first time I've ever seen you say that, and yet, considering you are repeating the worst jingoist nonsense from Russia on this forum uncritically, in thread after thread, I conclude you're just not being honest.

What I say on this forum does not come from Russia.

It comes from me. These are my beliefs and opinions.

If they are in agreement with ANY other party it is purely coincidental.

“From what commenters say, I kind of get the picture of some drunk in his underwear with dried borscht in his beard sitting in a dilapidated soviet-style apartment with a rug hanging on the wall, banging away on his keyboard lauding the bald dwarf Putler.”

Yes we have a few of them that are assigned to this site. Unfortunately Free Republic is pretty low on their priority list so we see only the bottom of the barrel in terms of their propaganda skill.

I read that earlier… It’s an interesting theory. I forget where I think it was RIA Novosti or perhaps Izvestiya in Moscow.

Yes, nice and friendly people comprise the Russian government and they would never have expanded into Georgia or Ukraine were it not for NATO expansion. /s.
