Liz Truss has defended the Falklands as “part of the British family” after China backed Argentina’s claim over the South American islands.
The Foreign Secretary tweeted that “China must respect the Falklands’ sovereignty” after Argentinian president, Alberto Fernandez, met with China’s President Xi on the fringes of the Beijing winter Olympics.
According to a statement on London’s Chinese Embassy website, the two leaders spoke of their “deep friendship” and Argentina signed up to China’s Belt and Road infrastructure initiative, a state-backed campaign for global influence.
But they also signed an agreement in which China reasserted its support for Argentina’s claim to the Falklands, while Mr Fernandez backed Xi’s one-China policy, which claims Taiwan as its own.

So instead of corrupt mafia socialists in Argentina’s government gorging themselves on US dollar debt, they can gorge themselves on Chinese Yuan debt instead.
I don’t think it will work out quite as they hope.
Argentinian has no claim.
I am not saying we can or should be the “world’s policeman”, but what we see here is a United States that has been withdrawn from the world stage due to malice, incompetence, avarice, or all three.
A world without an engaged United States is not a better place.
I agree, but would Obama have done anything more to deter Argentina than will Biden?
Maggie, where are you when we need you? I am afraid England saw the last of their prime ministers with balls when Maggie died. It didn’t take her long to convince Argentina that the Falklands did not belong to them.
This is just an example. The world is smoldering, it feels like a tinderbox about to go up. This Administration is not just disengaged via avarice or incompetence, it is worse - they are bought and sold by the Chicoms, and are beholden to them. Trump was engaged in the world stage, both economically and strategically. He was unpredictable, and had shown himself to be true to his word in many matters. His dealings with China highlight why that was an asset, and the tangible results were evident both in the economy and the Abraham Accords.
No, it will end badly for Argentina, but that's not good for the US either.
I see it up close - to survive in Washington DC and the massive US bureaucracy, you must have a woke/liberal, globalist mindset. It truly is the religion/ideology of Fed.gov. It blinds policymakers from reality, makes them stupid, and when it fails, as it always does, the result is extreme corruption and cynicism.
For example, in June of 2021, the US Embassy in Kabul was promoting "gay pride month." A month later, the Taliban had chased the USA out of Afghanistan.
They are now blindly destroying themselves, and us, in Ukraine in a similar manner - and in most other places too.
Have the UK give the Falklands to the US. We’ll make sure they do not come under attack. We take the natural resources until we’re profitable. Then at some point we give it to Argentina. It’s like reparations. Stirs up resentment among all latin nations. China’s their Al Sharpton.
Ping.
Your post was both nauseating and disheartening to read.
Good God.
The Brits should have bombed Buenos Aires during the war but the US told them not to. Might of bombed a military airport. Bombing the capital building would have sent a big message and exposed what the generals exposed their troops to especially on the Belgrano. Just give them 24 hours to empty the city and drop the bomb on the palace.
The “African Colonel” himself.
The brits did bomb targets with obsolete Vulcan bombers that were within the same range as the mainland. It caused the Argentinians to hold back a sizeable force, good deterrence example.

I was certainly on board with what the Brits did in the Falklands.
And to the point of bombing Buenos Aires, my country should have bombed Hanoi and Haiphong in 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, and 1971, as we did in 1972.
The Argentine navy is a few coast guard boats. They can’t face the UK navy.
All polls are that nearly 100% of Falklands residents do not want to leave the uk
Russia also backs Argentina’s claim to the Falkland Islands.
It will be used as a Chinese base. Duh.
