US threatens stiff sanctions, warns Russia not to 'weaponize' energy

Washington (AFP) – The United States on Tuesday warned Russia of damaging sanctions, including high-tech export curbs, and said attempts by Moscow to "weaponize" its enormous oil and gas industry would backfire.

"We are prepared to implement sanctions with massive consequences" that go far beyond previous measures implemented in 2014 after Russia invaded Ukraine's Crimea region, a senior US official said.

"If Russia decides to weaponize its supply of natural gas or crude oil, it wouldn't be without consequences to the Russian economy," a senior US official told reporters.

Although the European Union sources about 40 percent of its supply from Russia, Moscow also relies heavily on sales of energy for its national budget, meaning "it's an interdependency," the official said.

"We're working with countries, companies around the world to ensure the security of supply and to mitigate against price shocks," the official said.

The "contingency planning" includes negotiations with suppliers in North Africa and Asia to "temporarily surge gas output."

Russia is a gas station with nukes. A third-world s*hole. Crude was $50 when Brandon was sworn in, near $90 today. If you really want to keep Putin in check, DRILL BABY DRILL.

Not to weaponize energy? This administration green lit Russian pipelines and shut down our own pipelines.

They gave Russia the keys to do this.

More empty threats. Is Biden going attack Russia on its home turf? How well has that worked out for others?

“..They need a war to cover their lies. They need blood and sacrifices...”

This would be true in the past.
But now, they’ve so hated and vile that a war, especially one like this, is only gonna make em sink even further into the void.
Let’s Go Brandon!!!!

“We’re working with countries, companies around the world to ensure the security of supply and to mitigate against price shocks,” the official said.

Oh sure. The Biden regime can’t even keep the grocery stores stocked.

“A third-world s*hole.”

That’s a pretty bold statement. Isn’t it odd that the s*hole” country as you describe has the whole world on edge. Not too bad for a s*hole” country, now is it?

At least they have a leader that stands up for his country — which is certainly more than we can say!

By the way, do you have any source to back up your s*hole” country claim?

Too bad we’re not a net exporter of oil like we were under Donald Trump or we could help Europe out of Russia decides to play hardball.

Absolutely! Who weaponized energy at the end of WWII with the U.S. Breton Woods deal and a guarantee to protect the middle east (Saudi) oil in return for using the dollar as the only medium exchange?? It’s called “petro dollars” and is still the weapon we use to this day.

“..Is Biden going attack Russia on its home turf? How well has that worked out for others?...”

He appears to be as mentally deranged as Hitler was at this point. So yeah...he’d probably attack em on their home turf. Would not be the least bit surprising at all.
It didn’t work out too good for Hitler back in WWII, and it sure as heck ain’t gonna work out too good for this moronic imbecile in this day and age.
Let’s Go Brandon!!!!

Hoping that Americans will not vote in another party to correct the mess. Roosevelt was on his 4th term remember what he did.

Fox showed yesterday that we went from getting 18,000 barrels of oil from Russia, during Pres Trump’s term, to 220,000, now.

CornPop made us reliant on their crude. How the heck are we going to sanction them?

This administration proves, everyday, that they don’t have any idea what they’re doing.
