I don’t remember the 50s & early 60s, when I went to grade school, Jr HS and HS, if they did or not.

My parents looked at every book I brought home from public school, and we talked about its contents.

If they had a problem with any of it they would have been in the teacher’s face in a nanosecond and if they didn’t like what they heard they would have worked with community friends to get that teacher fired.

Every teacher knew that—and that is why we never had any issues.
