Suburbs, warmer cities step up efforts to lure cops away from Chicago

Some Chicago officers want to get away from a demoralized police department. Now, the law also lets them transfer up to 5 years of service to suburban pension plans.

Sean Jaycox, a third-generation Chicago police officer, was goofing around on his computer last winter. He started looking at Florida police departments that hire cops from other states but don’t make them go through a training academy again.

“I threw an application in for fun, and here I am now,” Jaycox says of his new job as a Fort Lauderdale cop.

“I’m only 24, no wife, no kids,” he says. “If there was a time to go and pursue something else, that was the time. It’s a little better quality of life. I like to golf and fish. I get to do that year-round. It’s 75 and sunny right now, and, as soon as I get off work, I’m going to sit at the pool. I’m beyond proud to have been with CPD. But the opportunity presented itself, and here I am.”

Are their retirement/401k programs under the same umbrella?

Shouldn’t be hard. None of them have Beetlejuice as a mayor.

Would you really want to hire one this late? They're still Democrat union members who continue to support a Socialist regime.

The smart ones walked away during the last two years. The remaining ones are likely Flavor-Aid drinkers.

Most likely not most public pensions do not transfer.

between states some time not even in between local governments

Most state pensions will only transfer within a state.

But at 24, I rather doubt that retirement matching after only three years of service meant near as much to him as golfing, fishing and laying out at the pool.

At the pool, in late January. That doesn’t happen outdoor in Chicago in January or February.

And I suspect that the eye candy might be better ...

I don’t know about Florida as I Canby but I’ve been to Chicago many times and I’ve seen some fantastic looking women there.

I remember the beginning of one of those old surfer movies with Annette Funicello that started with a woman wrapped up in a coat, hat & scarf walking through a blizzard. The voiceover said “This woman is 36-24-36, but you’d never know it by looking at her here in Chicago.

Cut to the beach scene…..

"They're still Democrat union members who continue to support a Socialist regime."

Yeah, that's it right there..

I keep getting calls from the police unions and organizations (?) wanting donations.. I'm NOT giving a dime to cops who behave in such manner as seen in Seattle and other blue cities..

It's my opinion that their job is NOT to do ONLY what their boss tells them to do, but to protect the citizens and enforce the LAW.!

Am I wrong about this.??

LOL, I've only ever been in Chicago when it was cold and it was just like that. If I saw any attractive women there I didn't notice. Their faces were red and they were bundled up. I live in Texas and beautiful women are all over the place. That is also true of California and Florida.

That's a big assumption and it may not be totally accurate.

I have a friend, who retired from CPD. They tried to keep him, dangled the possibility of a senior promotion, better jobs within the CPD etc…. When they realized he was leaving, they screwed with him over his last couple of years and the Union refused to intervene. He did not get in any trouble, they just assigned him in $hit jobs well below his rank and seniority. According to him the majority of good cops have quietly left or retired. He said the level of incompetence in both street cops and leadership is breath taking. He said in the current environment, the Union will throw a cop under bus rather then fight for him even if he is innocent. There is no incentive for good cops to stick around. Those who do have too much time invested to just leave. They keep their heads down avoid conflict and ride out their time. It is the younger cops or people who should not be cops who drank the Kool-Aid.

My former shipmate was a good cop, extremely well educated and a street smart cop who rode out the last two years. You cannot blame them for hanging on for the retirement and benefits they earned.

He won’t be alone.

Cops are going where they are APPRECIATED.
