The Electric Vehicle Scam

In order to match the 2,000 cars that a typical filling station can service in a busy 12 hours, an EV charging station would require 600, 50-watt chargers at an estimated cost of $24 million and a supply of 30 megawatts of power from the grid. That is enough to power 20,000 homes. No one likely thinks about the fact that it can take 30 minutes to 8 hours to recharge a vehicle between empty or just topping off. What are the drivers doing during that time?

ICSC-Canada board member New Zealand-based consulting engineer Bryan Leyland describes why installing electric car charging stations in a city is impractical:

“If you’ve got cars coming into a petrol station, they would stay for an average of five minutes. If you’ve got cars coming into an electric charging station, they would be at least 30 minutes, possibly an hour, but let’s say its 30 minutes. So that’s six times the surface area to park the cars while they’re being charged. So, multiply every petrol station in a city by six. Where are you going to find the place to put them?”

The government of the United Kingdom is already starting to plan for power shortages caused by the charging of thousands of EVs. Starting in June 2022, the government will restrict the time of day you can charge your EV battery. To do this, they will employ smart meters that are programmed to automatically switch off EV charging in peak times to avoid potential blackouts.

600 x 50 kilowatts = 30 megawatts.

Electric vehicles are pretty cool. We will all go to them once they can go 500 miles between charges and when full charges can be done in five minutes or less.

This is yet another example of the following truth:

Conservatives carefully weigh all the options, then choose the best one.

Liberals do whatever feels best at the moment, and tomorrow be damned.

Just repeal the laws of chemistry and thermodynamics and you're good to go.

Around six years ago, while watching German docu-shows...this public TV news team came to this recharge station that was about 5 minutes driving from a autobahn exit. It was a two-car charger, next to a small business district street...across from a McDonalds.

The crew went over to the McDonalds and asked the manager about the ‘hub’ for recharging. The manager said it’d been there for about 18 months, and no one from the McDonalds had ever witnessed a car there recharging.

So the topic came up...about the rate of cost, if you had driven up and attached for four hours. They dug the local charge cost out and it was an outrageous amount, but the guy noted that he had to get his investment money back.

“Electric vehicles are pretty cool. We will all go to them once they can go 500 miles between charges and when full charges can be done in five minutes or less.”

Colonies are Mars are pretty cool. We will all go on vacation there once we can use Star Trek like transporters to get there instantly.

More fear porn of EV’s.

ev’s are not being charged at gas stations only. Most EV charging station in the US are now at home and many are being put in at restaurants, grocery stores, hotels, malls, theme parks where people do their shopping while their car is being charged.

A charging station is a selling point to get people into their stores.

Of course he ignores the fact that most EV drivers will seldom have to go to a ‘charging station’ since they will ‘top off’ while sleeping.

For the Early Adopters, EVs are cool. Maybe I wouldn’t mind having one for myself. But I just don’t see them “crossing the chasm” into the mainstream.

“Just repeal the laws of chemistry and thermodynamics and you’re good to go.”

Toyota said their new Solid state lithium free battery will range 450 miles by 2024 and will charge up in less than a 1/2 hour.

Other car companies are working on similar goals.
