Surely we can do better than the Romans

It will fail because progressivism replaced adherence to the constitution.

And hard to protect an “empire” when top generals are obsessed with virtue signaling.

This same story was circulating 50 years ago, only then the time frame was just 200 years.

Yes, so it seems. All Western civilization seems to be in a death pact.

250 years is only an average. Some empires rise and fall with the career of one powerful and charismatic leader. Others last for millennia with peaks and nadirs along the way. We are approaching a nadir right now, but will it be fatal? A great country can still recover if only there is the will.

The first is dependent on the second and if we keep mismanaging the currency it all can change very quickly. There is already a lot of pressure to establish a competitor to the dollar from countries like China, Russia, Iran, etc. Look at how quickly the world has shifted in the last two years and the loss of the dollar’s position is easy to imagine.

Excuse me, but what is a fait accomplit? Or do you mean a fair accomplice?

I think it can be easily argued we have been an imperial power for at least 70 years as we stepped into the role of world superpower at the end of WWII. The late 1890s could also be argued as the US became a colonial power after taking Spanish holdings as far away as the Philippines. Others look at the westward expansion under “manifest destiny” as imperialistic, even though we ultimately developed those areas with an American cultural identity and full and equal partnership as states.

That’s the way it seems to me, too, I’m afraid.

We’ve had our Marius, I’m waiting for Sulla, not Crassus.

Well, the people have seceded the power to the government to run their giant monster of a racket...so not exactly illegal but, perhaps unlawful...at least in the hearts of those who would not have seceded such things in the first place.

The mob rules.
The mob calls it Democracy.

Fed! Fed! Fed!
