When U.S. Capitol Police Lt. Michael Byrd went on “NBC Nightly News” to tell his side of shooting and killing unarmed Jan. 6 rioter Ashli Babbitt, he made a point to note he’d been investigated by several agencies and exonerated for his actions that day.
“There’s an investigative process [and] I was cleared by the DOJ [Department of Justice], and FBI and [the D.C.] Metropolitan Police,” he told NBC News anchor Lester Holt in August, adding that the Capitol Police also cleared him of wrongdoing and decided not to discipline or demote him for the shooting.
Byrd then answered a series of questions by Holt about the shooting, but what he told the friendly journalist he likely never told investigators. That’s because he refused to answer their questions, according to several sources and documents reviewed by RealClearInvestigations.
In fact, investigators cleared Byrd of wrongdoing in the shooting without actually interviewing him about the shooting or threatening him with punishment if he did not cooperate with their criminal investigation.
“He didn’t provide any statement to [criminal] investigators and they didn’t push him to make a statement,” Babbitt family attorney Terry Roberts said in an RCI interview. “It’s astonishing how skimpy his investigative file is.”
Roberts, who has spoken with the D.C. MPD detective assigned to the case, said the kid-glove treatment of Byrd raises suspicions the investigation was a “whitewash.” The lawyer’s account appears to be backed up by a January 2021 internal affairs report, which notes Byrd “declined to provide a statement,” D.C. MPD documents show.

Yes, I see your point. If as they allege, ‘white supremacy’ was feared by capital police then a process of discovery during a proper investigation would have given them ample opportunity to prove their case. And since we know they exploit every opportunity to impose their agenda, the fact this was not pursued, proves they’re lying about ‘white supremacy’ concerns within DJT and fair election supporters.

He says he did not answer questions in the criminal investigation. Well, there he is within his rights to not answer, so I don’t see the problem at that point. BUT, he does has a responsibility to answer questions about whether or not he acted properly in the performance of his job once criminal conduct becomes a non issue.
IMO, anyone who is competent to review that incident from an unbiased point of view would easily conclude he acted beyond reason and should be terminated forthwith.
If it had been a cop under a Trump administration who shot a liberal protestor, the left woild be screaming and violently protesting the reinstatement of said cop, and making life near the Capitol building miserable for everyone, and Noone woild do a thing about it out-of fear of becoming the next victims of the violent left/domestic terrorists. I responded as fast as I could,” witness Jonathan Mellis told investigative journalist Cara Castronuova in August 2021. “I saw her lifeless body being crushed under the officers and hit with their batons. They were kicking her viciously. I acted to get them off her. I was maced.”
What people seem to miss is that senator’s are affected the same security as POTUS while in the capital building. They all have protective service details and are guarded with ROE of deadly force is not only authorised it is mandatory should the primary under protection be in danger. There was a barricaded doorway behind which were PSD protected clients that was the last line of defence and a clear barrier to entry breaching that barrier was not only a felony it also was a direct act of aggression towards the primary. If POTUS was behind that door with his SS protective team would you have expected them not to shoot the first person through the breach with a angry mob on the other side of the door?
Answer that question directly if POTUS at the time Donald had been behind that barricaded door and a mob of shouting angry people was on the other side would you have expected his SS detail to not fire on the first person who battered their way through a barricaded and barred door. Every PSD team in the world would have and should have reacted the same way you fire on the first person through the breach to stop the momentum of the crowd period.
I have done PSD duty as the PSO for the U.S. Military and Fed Gov I would have opened up with automatic weapons fire on the first person to breach my inner and last cordon while actively protecting my primary from a mob threat as I would have expected any member of my PSD team to do the same. There is a reason the officer was not charged he did the text book response to an active threat in a barricaded situation and a high value primary. That’s the facts while unpleasant for some to admit it doesn’t change the rules and laws while protecting high value personnel during a declared riot or other period of active civil unrest.
