Police Blame Freedom to Carry for Gun Thefts in Kansas City
AmmoLand ^ | January 4, 2022 | Dean Weingarten

In a recent article aired on National Public Radio affiliate, Kansas City Police were given a platform to blame increasing crime rates on the restoration of Second Amendment rights. One of the first things noted was an increase in the reports of firearms stolen from vehicles in Kansas City, MO. From kcur.com:

In 2021, 613 guns were stolen from vehicles, compared with 498 in 2020, Capt. Sean Hutcheson said in a presentation to the Kansas City Police Board on Dec. 14. Police know the weapons are being used in crimes, he said.

“One of the drivers of our violence in Kansas City is easy access to guns,” Hutcheson said. “And since the early 2000s, a lot of our gun laws in the state have been relaxed. So people are more likely to be carrying guns and especially in their vehicles.”

Hutcheson makes a major jump in logic, asserting, without evidence, that “easy access to guns” is  “One of the drivers of our violence in Kansas City…” There are numerous studies that show mere access to guns is not a driver of illegal violence.

The clearest indicator of illegal violence, murder, is not associated with rates of gun ownership.  This is an attempt to place responsibility on inanimate objects rather than on personal decisions, ethics, and morality.

Missouri law applies to all of Missouri. These problems seem unique to particular areas of Kansas City. There are many areas in Missouri that have high gun ownership (access to guns) and low murder rates. The KCUR article notes where many thefts of guns are taking place:

The hotspots for vehicle thefts are the city’s entertainment districts, Hutcheson said, including Westport, the Power & Light District, the Crossroads District and the 18th & Vine District.

There are many potential tools to stop the theft of guns in this hot spot. Instead, the police blame the right to keep and bear arms.

Perhaps if entertainment businesses allowed patrons to carry the guns wouldn’t be defenseless in those vehicles...

KC police are purveying idiocy.

If people are having them stolen from cars, they’re idiots. You lock that sh!t up or carry it with you. Of you know you can’t carry it where you’re going, leave it at home!

In a related story, these also blamed car thefts on people who own cars - if it wasn’t for those selfish people buying cars, the car thefts would stop.

As in the article, want a gun:

* Go to a place, i.e. bar, where guns are not allowed.
* Wait for someone turned away from the door for carrying a gun.
* Follow person to car.
* Wait for person to store gun in car and leave.
* Profit.

Solution: Eliminate gun-free zones.

Yea, they are right. There aren’t any shootings in Chicago where you get prison for carrying.

“There aren’t any shootings in Chicago where you get prison for carrying.”

Concealed carry is legal in Chicago with a CCL. And almost no one there goes to prison for simply carrying without one. Chicago has a Soros prosecutor.

Why expect carriers to expend extra $$ when it is the police’s responsibility to curb crime? Mebbe crimes are up because your commie trash DA won’t prosecute.

It is worth knowing what the opposition is putting out.

The never ending media assault on common sense and the second amendment completely ignores what % of the punks breaking into cars are black. In every video I’ve seen, the perps appeared to be ALL BLACK.

This type crime will never stop until this country can openly discuss the REAL issue which is young, black, fatherless males.
