Omicron should be a cause for celebration, not fear. Its symptoms are mild to nonexistent in the majority of the infected, especially the vaccinated; hospitalization rates are over nine times lower than for previous COVID strains; deaths are negligible.
The only public health experts whom the media quote are those determined to put the most dire spin on Omicron.
There are apparently no circumstances that would warrant a less-than-totalitarian response in advance of any actual disaster. The yearning for more draconian lockdowns and more control over the private sector is palpable.
The South African data should lead any coverage of Omicron, yet it has barely been reported. Though only 27 percent of that country is fully vaccinated, less than 2 percent of new cases are requiring hospitalization.
But case counts are a particularly deceptive measure of pandemic severity, when so many of the new cases are mild to asymptomatic.

Why SA continually gets talked about is hard to understand. They are all dead before the virus can get them. 80% of Covid deaths since day 1 have been 65+. The remaining 20% concentrated 60+.
Celebrating a young population’s survival is just bizarre. They were surviving all along.
here in one of the southern suburbs of Mpls-St Paul over the last several months, I’ve seen only a limited number of people wearing masks. But, this morning I went to the store and almost all the customers were wearing masks again.
They are really going all out with the Omicron variant hysteria.

Oh, don’t you worry none. Starting Jan 1, the media will get marching orders telling them that happy talk is the only thing that can save the mid terms. All you will hear is how things are returning to normal and how the virus has been defeated.
The daily death counts will still be 1500+, or higher, but this will be allowed no attention.
The manipulation has been so obvious it amazes me that so few see through it including many who would otherwise be considered educated and intelligent. Apparently all thy had to do was threaten scientists/doctors with loss of funding, suspension of medical licenses, and professional ostracism to get them onboard with this ruse. The morality in this country has sunk to dangerously low levels and the corruption is rampant and just continues to get worse. This is all going to come to a head before long.
My husband is a heart transplant person. We needed to call our contact practitioner at our hospital regarding some routine medication. I asked her how it was going with Omicron at the hospital and if they are concerned. She said no, they weren’t and didn’t seem to be a problem, referring to it as much ado about nothin, for now. She said “I know we are all tired of the scare tactics and the panic it is causing”. Mentioned how completely irresponsible it was for the POTUS to refer to it as “the winter of death”.
What ever happened to the “flu” that we always had during the fall and winter months? Is everything the virus now? Did the China Virus wipe out the flu? I’m confused. Is anybody else confused?

Yes, this is remarkable. Several weeks ago the media announced that there were supply chain issues. Our nearest town population responded and the local store was swamped.
Now we knew about this months ago and had calmly planned accordingly. It was puzzling to see that the media still maintains so much credibility with many people.

Acid rain was dealt with in the 1980s and 1990s. By switching from coal to gas and installing “scrubbers” to clean up power station and factory emissions, huge reductions were made in acid rain pollution in Europe. Catalytic convertors on car exhausts reduced nitrogen oxide emissions.
Acid rain still occurs, but its impact on Europe and North America is far less than it was in the 1970s and ‘80s, because of strong air pollution regulations in those regions. The term acid rain is a popular expression for the more formal and scientific term acid deposition.
