In October 4.2 million Americans quit their jobs amid 11 million job openings Both figures are near records set earlier this year amid the Great Resignation

It comes after Prince Harry advised people to leave their jobs for mental health

But evidence shows that most people quitting are taking more lucrative jobs

Red-hot job market gives job-seekers the most bargaining power in two decades

Labor shortage is driven largely by older workers who retired during pandemic

=====================================================================

More than four million Americans quit their jobs in October as the Great Resignation shows no signs of stopping.

Some 4.2million workers - 2.8 per cent of the US work force - gave their notice in search of better opportunities amid a near-record surge in job openings, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The number of quits was just slightly down from the August record of 4.3million, while job openings remained near record highs at 11 million, just below July's peak.

The ongoing surge in resignations comes after Prince Harry advised people to leave their jobs to bolster their mental health, though evidence indicates that most people quitting are departing for more lucrative opportunities in a red-hot job market.

The figures from the Labor Department's Job Openings and Labor Turnover survey, or JOLTS, show that with so many companies chasing relatively few unemployed people, job-seekers have the most bargaining power they have had in at least two decades.

Wages are rising at a healthy pace, particularly for lower-paid employees, though much of that bump in pay is being eroded by higher inflation.

There were just 7.4 million people counted as unemployed in October, equal to just two-thirds of the 11 million open jobs. Before the pandemic, there were usually more unemployed people than available workers.

Do four million Americans even know what “prince” Harry thinks? About anything?

Last I checked we’re not a monarchy. What do I care about a prince of anything?

I’m not fond of these terms saying people are just quitting. They aren’t going on unemployment. It’s a mix of people who are retiring early, choosing to go to one income in their family, and the rest deciding on another career. A more accurate description of this event is more that people are finally not accepting a bad job and leaving to look for other things. Companies are going to have to get creative again to draw people to their companies. My hope in this is that maybe this opens up more mom and pop with people leaving large corporations in droves.

The Daily Mail is a UK Paper and for them he is “Prince Harry”. Here in the USofA, as a permanent resident(?), he is Henry Charles Albert David Windsor, a self-disinherited grandson of a FOREIGN Queen.

Your quote should be the article. There are a lot of people who were cubicle dwellers that got an extended taste of not being a cubicle dweller. Many found they could be productive at home, and do not relish the thought of returning to an office with all of its interpersonal drama and poisoned politics. I've been there and done that and will do everything possible never to return to it.

“Baby Boomers?.....................”

I am 59, a bunch of my classmates have retired this year and last. Stock market at record highs and people feel they can retire.
Some have sold their homes for mega $$$ and downsized to a smaller condo

What does Prince Harry have to do with jobs in America?

Anyhow, I retired long before I had intended to. I worked in Health Care and the things which they required of me once this Covid scheme was implemented was simply too physically challenging for me.

I left about 10 months ago and I had a difficult time emotionally doing so. It was a matter of my own health as well as I almost immediately recognized this vaccine as nonsense. I came to disbelieve the entire Virus Pandemic as a fraud by late April of 2020.

The hospital asked several times for me to return, even per diem, but I declined and I as well informed them that I would never submit to their fake vaccines. These are not vaccines. Most Health Care workers realize this or they should.

During the last several months there are Recruiters out there offering incredible amounts of money for such as myself to come work for their clients. It is not happening. Since I left my job, about 1/4 of the Department has also left. The staffing shortages simply make the work load more intense for those who remain.

Yeah, right … just quit due to some random thought of prince who?

Were the job quitters vaxxed or unvaxxed?

Was there some form of coercion or tyranny, taxes, or otherwise, that they wanted to escape from, so they quit to move to a more favorable place?

I got fired for refusing both vax and mask in july and haven't even lifted a finger towards getting a new job yet.

I've never been healthier or happier so I'm in no hurry to get back into the race.

Saving are not hemorrhaging too badly at all.

Thanks Harold!/s

I still fully expect God to intervene on our behalf and feel like Elijah's servant watching for the first sign of rain on the horizon.

Skilled manufacturing and engineering jobs are still paying crap wages. They can’t adjust to Bidenflation as easily as service, retail, and restaurant jobs. I have seen entry level restaurants offer the same wages as entry level welding jobs. It’s bad and will only get worse. Prepare accordingly.

“I’m not fond of these terms saying people are just quitting ...”

Thought provoking analysis. I’m still bewildered that so many people voluntarily quit.

In order to properly interpret the ‘quitting’ statastic, don’t you need to know how many people are taking jobs?

All the retirements will strain the retirement accounts. My union was complaining before, they must be crying by now.

“All the retirements will strain the retirement accounts.”

Do you suppose the answer to all of this is to let the economy and society run with minimum government intervention?

In my office, the only real office politics has been the COVID-19 politics, and the authoritarians came out of the woodwork. I've told my supervisor I'm not going back to the office until I can go to the bathroom without a mask and without disclosing my medical history.

I may be working from home for the rest of my career...
