Ohio Constitutional Carry Awaits State Senate Decision

In Ohio, the Constitutional Carry bill, HB227 is moving forward.  It passed the House Oversight Committee on October 28.  On November 17, it passed the House, 60 to 32. From dayton247now.com:

“The Second Amendment gives us the right to bear arms. I am proudly pro-Second Amendment and this bill is pro-Second Amendment,” said Senator Niraj Antani, a co-sponsor of the bill.

The bill would also make the mandatory eight hours of training optional.

“People should get training, but it doesn’t have to be required. The Constitution does not require training in order to have your constitutional rights,” Senator Antani said.

Dayton 24/7 Now’s Mamie Bah asked Antani, “Are there any concerns of safety here?”

He said, “Concealed firearm carriers by and large are law-abiding citizens who are trying to exercise their Second Amendment rights.”

Now the bill goes to the Senate. The Republicans have a supermajority in the Senate, 25 to 8.

The bill should pass in the Senate, but each legislative fight involves personalities. Several states have had Constitutional Carry delayed because one or two Republicans in powerful committees were not committed to fighting. If the bill passes the Senate, then it goes to Governor DeWine.

Governor DeWine has been ambivalent on Second Amendment rights. He has not threatened to veto Constitutional Carry. He has not supported it either. In January of 2021, he signed a bill eliminating one of the last “duty to retreat” statutes.

In January, GOP Gov. Mike DeWine signed a bill into law eliminating an individual’s duty to retreat before using force. The measure expands the so-called “stand your ground” right from an individual’s house and car to any place, “if that person is in a place in which the person

We’ve had Constitutional Carry in Texas for over a year now, but funny, the BLOODBATH that the Left promised us just doesn’t seem to want to start.

Blystone would probably sign it if he were Governor.
I guess I need to start doing some research instead of being a political hermit.
Anyone got a opinion on the farmer from Lithopolis running for Ohio Governor?

It’s a shame these politicians don’t have a clue; FTA: “The Second Amendment gives us the right to bear arms. I am...”

No it doesn’t. It prohibits the government from affecting in any way (infringing) our God-given natural right of self-defense. And the 14th amendment imposes it on the various states and their legal sub-divisions. Boiled down, it tells government, “Hands Off!”

If it ‘gave’ something to you it’s a privilege, and privileges can be rescinded.

I get your point that the chicken littles predicting a bloodbath were wrong but, for clarification, Constitutional Carry went into effect on September 1 of this year.

“The Second Amendment gives us the right to bear arms.”

No it does not.

“Anyone got a opinion on the farmer from Lithopolis running for Ohio Governor?”

I saw him speak in Strongsville earlier this year and I very much liked him.

That said, I have no idea how his folksy and low key messaging will pierce the larger electorate and translate into votes and an election victory for him.

“.....the 14th amendment imposes it on the various states and their legal sub-divisions. Boiled down, it tells government, “Hands Off!”

I concur...but roll it back to Our Lord who has primacy in imposing that restriction.

All government at any level, despite whatever pretense of legal fiction or brute force is threatened or applied...is forbidden by the Laws of Nature and Nature’s God to do anything other than protect your life, your liberties and your property....though Thom said pursuit of happiness.

As you know, The Bill of Rights is a partial enumerated list of what the most recently abused (though still eternal and unchanging) rights were at the time.

The 9th says all powers, not just rights but powers not specified to the Feds are retained by The People.

The 10th is a double lock.....saying the powers, again not the rights not given the Feds, nor (the powers) reserved to the States by the Constitution.....remain with again, The People.

The very foundation of Liberty is that individual rights are unalienable. Powers may be delegated, but not rights.

But that is just my opinion and I do not feel strongly about it....though many men have and still do.

The gun grabbers and the corporate media claimed it would be a bloodbath in the mid 80s when Florida was the first state to pass Shall Issue for concealed carry permits. Now all but 8 states are constitutional carry or shall issue. The crime and murder rates have been cut in half since then.

20 states are now constitutional carry. Where’s the bloodbath? Same story.

Yea, all good an fine. After all, there’s exceptions to every rule, and despite 42 states having lower crime rates after letting people carry, the 43rd state, Ohio, will get things back to normal, with the expected bloodbath.
