SCOTTSDALE, AZ — The Satanic Temple's Satancon 2022 is coming to Scottsdale in February.
Satancon is the organization's first religious convention, according to a news release.
The event is set for Feb. 11-13, at the Saguaro Hotel in Scottsdale, with a second venue to be announced soon. Click here for tickets at $95 apiece.
The mission of The Satanic Temple is, "to encourage benevolence and empathy among all people, reject tyrannical authority, advocate practical common sense, oppose injustice, and undertake noble pursuits," according to its website.
SatanCon is set to feature talks and presentations about the various campaigns The Satanic Temple is currently championing. These include efforts to protect the reproductive rights of its members, fighting against psychiatric abuse, protecting children from abuse in schools, promoting addiction recovery and building support for the temple's after-school club.
The convention will also feature vendors, entertainment and a keynote presentation by Satanic Temple co-founder, Lucien Greaves.
The Satanic Temple sued the city of Scottsdale in 2018 for refusing to allow it to deliver an invocation prior to its city council meetings. The city had not rejected requests to deliver an invocation from any other organization.
In May, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in the city's favor, saying that Scottsdale did not engage in unlawful discrimination.
"In addition to creating a community for our members, SatanCon serves as an expression of our good will toward the city of Scottsdale, despite the perplexing and unfortunate ruling against us which defied precedent and common sense," Greaves said in the news release. "In the course of litigation, Scottsdale officials desperately made clear that they are, in fact, accepting and inclusive regarding Satanists. We heard you, Scottsdale, and we accepted that as an invitation to turn Scottsdale into the Happy Satanic Fun Capital of the World."
Greaves added that The Satanic Temple is dedicating SatanCon to the Scottsdale City Council.
"Far from being disgruntled and put off, we're going to bring Satan to Scottsdale," Greaves said. "We're bringing the party to you, Scottsdale, and it's going to be an event to remember."
The Scottsdale City Council did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

I assume these are “small ‘s’” Satanists who adopt the name for shock value, and probably don’t engage in actual satanic ritualism, but are a social-activism group with a veneer of paganism.

My youngest daughter, raised Catholic, says she’s a Wiccan now. I imagine she’ll be going to this since she lives 20 miles away. She just named her new puppy Hades, FFS. I told her he’ll be a big hit at the dog park, lol.
The organization they front for is comprised of sociopaths, murderers, pedos, pornographers, drug dealers and terrorists. Real Satanists remain in the shadows. These particular people have softened their image, but how can you assume anything about them? You can’t. Just because you did not see them making a snuff film or anally raping a runaway does not mean they don’t do that.

My wife did a deep dive into this since every thing these days is claimed to be satanic, demonic et al. A true satanist doesn’t believe in satan, but see him as an archetype of the first rebel and a call to live in the flesh only. Then you have those under that banner that find power in satanism as in real devil/demon worship. There seems to be as many denominations of satanism as there are other religions. Beats me how one would identify one from the other.

I went to a Catholic grade school, but
in my late teens I read books such as the Bio of Sybil Leeks, a now deceased woman who described herself as a witch. I read about Astrology, which was a common theme of pop music back then.
For my high school term paper, I reserched Sidhartha Gautama of the 6th century; aka founder of Buddhism.
I read a little about Karl Marx.
After I got busy looking for and holding down a job, I was less into such books.
I bet they used the same PR blurb way back at Babel!

Well I doubt Satan is for any of that stuff but it's a good cover.
