Cotton tells Garland: 'Thank god you're not on the Supreme Court'
The Hill ^ | Oct 27, 2021 | Harper Neidig

Attorney General Merrick Garland on Wednesday clashed with Republican senators over the Justice Department's efforts to crack down on violent threats against school boards, with one GOP member telling the former judge, "Thank god you're not on the Supreme Court."

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) made the remark during a heated exchange in which the senator tried to tie the Justice Department's new school board policy to an incident in Loudoun County, Va., where a teenager was accused of sexually assaulting a fellow student in a school bathroom.

"This testimony, your directive, your performance is shameful," Cotton said. "Thank god, you're not on the Supreme Court. You should resign in disgrace, Judge." ...

"This memorandum is not about parents being able to object in their school boards," Garland said. "They are protected by the First Amendment, as long as there are no threats of violence, they are completely protected. So parents can object to their school boards, about curriculum, about the treatment of their children, about school policies, all of that is 100% protected by the First Amendment and there is nothing in this memorandum contrary to that. We are only trying to prevent violence against school officials."

The only violence I have seen at school boards is the Sherriff dragging a parent out of the meeting for objecting to his daughter being raped.

Maybe they should follow up with a strongly worded letter.

There is still a possibility this POS could end up on the Court. Republicans confirmed him as Attorney General, and with voter fraud stealing seats every election, it’s quite possible that Democrats could take a larger majority in the Senate, and this guy could get seated over the next 3 years, if an opening occurs. Nothing is impossible.

Someone hasn’t lowered your expectations enough yet. You’re supposed to be thrilled that Tom is “fighting” for us.

Cotton has served for years on the highly corrupt Senate intel committee. It’s basically ground zero of the coup and he has said not a word about the coupists plotting in his midst. He is/was in a position of real power and chooses not to use it. Senator Lankford, for all his RINO faults, at least had the honor to resign from the committee. Cotton won’t even do that.

Thank God and McConnell.

mconnell, seriously? There is no person more responsible for what was done to Trump and leaving us with biden. mconnell had the power to stop the endless witch hunt investigations and bring the election fraud to light. But he did the exact opposite. He is a POS of the highest order in my estimation.

I think the Supreme Court comment is a low blow, unnecessary. I'd prefer he take the time to expose Garland as a political vessel, like Kennedy did.

Garland is almost 70. They’d go with younger version. Clinton appointed a 63 year old but she was so left it didn’t matter-Ruth.

The should have capitalized God in “Thank God. . . “ — but they didn’t, showing their pagan/atheist bias.

as long as there are no threats of violence, they are completely protected

Seems like a reasonable point Garland makes, until you ponder how fungible the term "violence" is when used by leftists. What makes Garland's attention so vile, however, is the school board is the most local of all public political venues - as far outside the jurisdiction of the federal government as you can get. So just to issue the threat of the federal government injecting their power into these local venues is heinous and almost the worst abuse of federal power I can imagine.
