People often talk about gun rights and I agree with the Second Amendment defending the basic right to self defense. But there are also other things that can be used as weapons. One is a very old and Biblical weapon...the slingshot! It worked for David!

Seriously, it would not be a bad idea to learn to use sling shots and teach the kids to use them.

The ancient sling is nothing like the modern sling shots.

The ancient didn't have rubber so they use the long leather strap that they spun over their head and they released one end of the strap to hurl the stone or lead pellet at 100 metres per second. The impact of the typical 1.5 ounce projectile used in the sling has an impact greater than a .44 magnum bullet from a gun.

A modern rubber band slingshot typically throws projectiles 45 to 70 meters per second with a much smaller projectile.

In some pictures that I have seen David is pictured swinging the sling shot over his head like those Assyrian fighters in the picture.

Don’t you think it would be good to teach kids how to use a sling shot for self protection.

Absolutely. Being able to protect yourself is always a good thing.

I am thinking of learning it myself. All you need is a cord, a strip of leather or cloth, and then he rock that you can find of a certain shape and size.
