The unexpected drop in statewide school enrollment last year of 160,000 students may prove to be a blip, ready to rebound as the coronavirus recedes. Or that one-year 2.6% drop could be an oversize harbinger of what demographers are predicting will be a decade-long enrollment decline in California.

College has had dropping enrollment for a few years already.

Nationally, the amount of people going to college is decreasing.
Additional research from the clearinghouse shows a 6.8% decline in college-going rates among the class of 2020 compared with the class of 2019 — that’s more than four times the decline between the classes of 2018 and 2019.
I think this trend has more to do with the dramatic decline in birth rates (especially for whites) over the last 50+ years. There are more Americans over the age of 80 than Americans under the age of 2.
Longevity has as much to do with that as birth rates

When so many young women since 1972/1973 (Betty Friedan, Gloria Steinem and Roe v. Wade type feminism came in) decided to put off marriage and/or having children, this trend caused fewer young women around to grow up to have children twenty years or so later. The five or six children families are rare now compared with one, two or none.
So who is around to go to college at age 18? Not as many Americans. Colleges will proclaim: Bring on the immigrants.
Good. Hit them in the only place that matters to those ghouls.
California isn’t paying. You are. How many nle state bailouts in the past 20 years and another on the way.
One of the few pieces of advice that I give to folks who have children is to get them far, far, FAR away from ‘publik skoolz’. And if we get into any discussion, my reasons are many and convincing. You just cannot make up any groups more incompetent and lazy than the NEA and the T-unions. (Nope, not all teachers are incompetent and lazy - but once they get into a lib school, resistance is futile, and they will be assimilated.)
A good reason now to fire a whole bunch of teachers and bureaucrats

Even after 2 decades of illegal families flooding into California with several school age kids has failed to stop the decrease in the number of public school students in California.
Some of the Catholic K-12 schools in California are closing after 50-100 years of being open.
Their child’s indoctrination camp is different, of course. ( Keyboard dripping with sarcasm.)
