In May, Washington governor Jay Inslee signed a law granting internationally-trained medical graduates the opportunity to obtain two-year medical licenses to work as doctors, with the possibility of renewal. Participants can forgo residencies—one of the most arduous steps in becoming a doctor—but must meet certain other requirements, including English proficiency, passing all three steps of the USMLE, and working under the supervision of a fully-licensed doctor.

They did a great job of keeping their numbers low in the name of quality and competence. They did so well that we have a shortage of properly trained doctors and opened the door to much less well trained ones.

The YouTube Channel ‘History Debunked’ has had a few videos on the impact of foreign doctors on the British NHS. Besides lacking real English proficiency, they have been ‘struck off’ at a much higher rate than English doctors. Also because of cultural differences (which cannot be criticized, of course) tend to be charged with more sexual offenses than their British counterparts.
