Russia draws a red line for US in Central Asia --- The Pentagon’s much-touted plan for staging 'out-of-horizon' operations in Afghanistan appears to be a pipe dream

Moscow has categorically stated that it will not accept a US military presence in the Central Asian region. This reiteration has come at the level of Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, who told TASS that Afghanistan had been discussed at a meeting with Victoria Nuland, the visiting US Undersecretary of State, in Moscow on Tuesday.

Ryabkov added: “We emphasized the unacceptability of a US military presence in Central Asian countries in any form whatever.”

Prima facie, Ryabkov has squashed the disinformation media campaign by Washington that at the Russia-US summit in Geneva in June, President Vladimir Putin had offered to President Joe Biden that the Pentagon could use Russian bases in the Central Asian region for conducting future (“out-of-the-horizon”) operations in Afghanistan.

The Wall Street Journal had earlier referred to its sources that Russia and the US had allegedly discussed the possibility of the US military using Russian bases in Central Asia at the level of General Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, with General Valery Gerasimov, the Russian chief of General Staff, at a meeting in Helsinki on September 24 “at the request of President Biden’s National Security Council staff.”

Washington’s ploy appeared to have been to create misconceptions among the Central Asian states regarding Russia’s intentions. To be sure, just before the Helsinki meeting of the two generals, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken also took a meeting of the so-called C5+1 Ministerial on September 22 to discuss “coordination on Afghanistan” with his Central Asian counterparts.

As a follow-up, US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman appeared in the steppes just 10 days later to meet with the leadership in Tashkent, presumably to fathom whether Uzbekistan might be open to the Pentagon having some basing facilities in that country. She drew a blank.

“...The summary states: “Solutions must be identified to guarantee the provision of basic services – in particular in education and health – that go beyond delivering emergency aid, provided those services are open to all. The functioning of the payment system and the overall financial stability should also be addressed.

“G20 countries will cooperate with the international organizations, international financial institutions, including multilateral development banks and humanitarian actors in this field.

“G20 countries invite the World Bank to explore possible ways to redirect support to international agencies with a presence in the country for humanitarian efforts.”

The big question is about the diplomatic recognition of the Taliban government by the regional states. Pakistan is keen that the regional states should evolve a collective decision....”

Weird. Russia gave us the norther rail supply route and use of bases for free after 9/11. It’s almost like a decade of hostility, threats, NATO advances, false accusations and sanctions, and at least one color revolution attempt have made them unwilling to do us any favors.
Who could have seen that coming?

Astonishing that the G20 is so wrapped around the axle for find ways to financially support the Taliban. Actually, I mean it SHOULD be astonishing.

I thought it was called “over the horizon” operations?

Biden probably thinks it over the rainbow operations.

Could the non-cooperation by Russia the other former USSR counties be as a result of Biden’s disastrous Afghanistan debacle??? The fact that no one received a heads-up to remove their people disgusted them.

Biden has finally built something back better.

Unfortunately, it’s the Taliban.

More than that. Hillary tried to launch a color revolution in Moscow in 2011. Obama threw a hissy fit over Russian anti-homo recruiting laws. We made the Sochi Olympics all about homosexuality. We pushed NATO west and tried to turn Sevastopol into a NATO navy base. We accused them of ruining the 2016 election. We did everything we could to stop them from bombing ISIS. We flipped them the finger in Libya, Syria, and Ukraine.

I’m no Bush fan, but after 9/11 they were working with us a lot. They called us to warn that the Tsarnaev brothers were terrorists.
Everyone around the world knows the 2020 election was stolen. Some agree, some don’t, but everyone knows it was.
For the Russians, that’s spooky since we are their only existential threat.
They know we have fallen under the control of a bunch of Trotski style Marxists. We sent Nuland the color revolution queen over to visit.

Biden is the cherry on the cake. They see him and they think “Brezhnev, Andropov, Chernenko, etc”. Just another incompetent, corrupt, party hack of several decades in the top seat.

In short, they see our government the way we used to view them. Corrupt, pervasively dishonest, perverted, immoral, atheist, aggressive, and untrustworthy. It’s a tragic turn that will still be discussed a thousand years from now.

I think they correctly see Biden as the proof that America has deep systemic problems.

Central Asia? That’s a “vital US interest”!

Might as well call Southwest Antarctica a “vital US interest”.

To paraphrase Bismark, the entire area is not worth the bones of a a single US soldier.

“For the Russians, that’s spooky since we are their only existential threat.”

There is also a Russian joke about China, that they have three plans to invade Russia - A large scale plan, a medium option, and a small scale plan (where they infiltrate very many small groups, of just a few million each).

The Russian far East is already demographically challenged by the number of ethnic Chinese, and the communist Chinese Government has their fingers in all their business.

It is a shame though, how the historic opportunity to fully integrate post-communist Russia into the West has failed in so many instances.

Things never stay still however, so perhaps some of our natural affinities may improve that in the future.

Good observations all. And that joke is a good one. Hadn’t heard that one before. A “few small units” of a couple of million. LOL

Trivia, Hitler killed around 4 million a year when you include reprisals against populations, open air starvation pens for Soviet POWs, euthanisia, along with the holocaust etc.

At that pace it would take Adolph 350 years to work his way through China.
