You can tell when you are being lied to when the language becomes metaphorical and idiomatic. The latest IPCC report was announced with the statement that “alarm bells are ringing”. In 2007 we were told that “the arctic is screaming” and Fox news said “we may have passed the tipping point”. In this post Rep. Kathy Castor, D-Florida says “This is a ‘Code Red’ moment, but Democrats are answering the call”. What these statements don’t have is any reference to actual facts. Nothing is “red” in the climate, nothing is “screaming”, nothing is “tipping”, no “bells” are “ringing”. What has happened is that global average temperatures have risen about .4 degrees Celsius over the last 40 years. Temperatures outside my house will change by more than that in the next 30 minutes. The temperature upstairs is a few degrees different than it is downstairs. The temperature in the sun is 5 to 10 degrees warmer than it is in the shade.
