The CIA evacuated an intelligence officer serving in Serbia in recent weeks who suffered serious injuries consistent with the neurological attacks known as Havana Syndrome, according to current and former U.S. officials.
The incident in the Balkans, which hasn’t been previously reported, is the latest in what the officials describe as a steady expansion of attacks on American spies and diplomats posted overseas by unknown assailants using what government officials and scientists suspect is some sort of directed-energy source.
Still more suspected attacks have occurred overseas and in the U.S., the current and former officials said, along with recently reported ones in India and Vietnam.
“In the past 60 to 90 days, there have been a number of other reported cases” on U.S. soil and globally, said Dr. James Giordano, a Georgetown University professor of neurology who is advising the U.S. government on the issue. “They are seen as valid reports with verified health indicators.”
The continuing attacks, which may cause dizziness, memory loss and other health issues, have sparked frustration within the U.S. government and sapped morale at the State Department and Central Intelligence Agency, the current and former officials said. Some professional diplomats and spies have become reluctant to take overseas postings for themselves and their families, the officials said. CIA Director William Burns has tripled the number of medical staff focused on Havana Syndrome, the agency says.
“The lights are blinking red now. This is a crisis for VIP travel, officers overseas,” said Marc Polymeropoulos, a veteran CIA operations officer who retired from the CIA in 2019 due to persisting symptoms he suffered following a 2017 visit to Moscow and has been critical of the federal government’s response.
Overall, the Biden administration has made finding the source of the attacks a “top priority,” an administration official said.

Blame it on some unknown enemy magic weapon, rather than the simple fact that anyone with a shred of conscience would have severe personal issues with doing the treasonous activities for which State is noted. Now I am starting to wonder if it something WE are doing to ourselves. Is there some super secret low frequency radio quantum encryption device that these places have that is having some unexpected effect on people in the vicinity?
Well, it’s a pretty simple equation to solve. Who has access to this type of technology, and who would be able to conduct these kinds of operations in Moscow, Serbia, and Havana? That’s a very short list of suspects.
Any device within X yards directing any kind of energy to the location could/should be detectable.
And you would have a bunch of others in the neighborhood suffering similar symptoms.

That would be easily falsifiable if other nations had embassies with the same issues.
I’m not following your logic there. Whether embassies of other countries are targeted or not doesn’t mean it’s not a foreign power doing it. I mean, it’s not as if there aren’t foreign powers who consider the US to be their only significant threat...
What I am saying is that if this is self-inflicted US technology (which I believe it is) then it would _not_ appear in embassies of the British or French or any other country.
My guess is that it was some politically connected contractor who installed some high tech in US embassies without fully testing for side effects...and since they are politically connected no-one who knows the truth wants to talk about it.
Do you recall the Memorex recording tape advertisement showing that a soprano voice could shatter a wine glass, and that Memorex recording of that voice also shattered the glass when played back at the same volume?
The body has similar resonant frequencies for tissues. Evidently these frequencies a pretty low-too low for the ear to detect, meaning long wavelengths hard to block and capable of traveling over great distances. With sufficient amplitude such sounds could create havoc I imagine.
