MACKINAC ISLAND, MI -- Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel kicked off the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference on Friday with a remark that seemed tailored to the Republican faithful in attendance.
“You know I do still live in Michigan, just so you know. I’m still a Michigander. I’m still suffering, like all of you, under Gretchen Whitmer, ok?” she said.
The line was greeted by applause by attendees of the semi-annual gathering at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island.
The hotel’s famous porch buzzed with activity as the conference kicked off on Friday, with attendees sipping drinks and candidates and officeholders mingling with reliable Republican voters who made the trip.
McDaniel’s message? Essentially, they’re all Republicans. If the gubernatorial candidates beat each other up too badly, she said, their negatives will be too high to win a general election the incumbent already tends to have an edge in.
“Remember, we’re trying to beat Gretchen Whitmer, not each other,” she told the crowd.
McDaniel chaired the Michigan Republican Party from 2015-2017, and rose to national prominence when the state broke a long-running Democratic presidential streak by helping vote former President Donald Trump into office in 2016. She has served as chair of the RNC since 2017.
Even serving in that national role, Michigan and Whitmer have her attention.
“Now there are some really, really bad Democrat governors across the country. (California Gov. Gavin) Newsom, (Illinois Gov. JB) Pritzker, we just got rid of (former New York Gov. Andrew) Cuomo. But I gotta say, I think Gretchen Whitmer is the worst,” McDaniel said.
“She’s the absolute worst governor in the whole country. And I’m so excited that there are so many candidates looking to run against her.”
McDaniel considered running for governor herself, she said, but is now focused on helping Michigan beat Whitmer.
In a speech opening up the event, Michigan Republican Party Co-Chair Meeshawn Maddock spoke about the optimism she had for the future of the Michigan Republican Party. She urged attendees to remember their Republican values and said “we can channel all of this anger... into doing everything that we can to fight for what we all believe in.”
Eleven Republicans have formed campaign committees to run for governor. Whoever emerges from the primary will likely take on Whitmer, who so far has no challengers in the Democratic primary.
I don’t know if that beyotch is the worst governor. She is right up there, for sure, but that numb nut MoFo in California, is pretty bad too.
Considering the disasters that Stacy Abrams (2019) and Joe Kennedy III (2018) were, followed pre-Obama by Kathleen Sebelius (2008), Jim Webb (2007), and Tim Kaine (2006) were, she's in good company.

Michelle Lujan Grisham is just as authoritarian and idiotic as Whitmer, but is also trying her very best to destroy every industry that brings a profit into the state... And has been working on that since her first day in office, long before the covidiocy gave her the opportunity to destroy every small business in the state, destroy the already lousy educational system, and destroy the morale of its citizens.

??? I think McDaniel has done a good job. She helped Trump in 2016, I presume she did in 2020, so I have zero qualms about her.
If the stupid party had anything going for it they would run somebody in the Democrat primary just to eat up Witmers funds.
And the conservative rubes line to vote that GOP ticket. Why on earth was Trump so stupid as to allow this Uniparty hack to “Washington General” his campaign? The Uniparty (R+D) were going to steal the election regardless, she just made the theft so much easier. And she STILL calls the shots at the RNC! I wonder how close McDaniel is to that other RNC hack that Trump endorsed in Wyoming a couple of weeks ago?

Whither is only the suck gold medalist because Cuomo resigned. That moved her into gold medal position and Murphy into silver.
Then again, Murphy could care the less. NJ’s voting is as fixed as California’s.
whitmer reminds me of several female bosses I have had. Totally incompetent and knowing nothing about how to manage people, they became mean, suspicious, vengeful attack dogs. Since they don’t know how to act, they try to act like they think men act, and overdo it.
If a sports team had the result the GOP had in 2020, you’d fire the manager.

Guessing there is more than one contender for worst governor in the nation. I can think of at least a few. Maybe we could vote on this in the next election, instead of picking a favorite; it could at least narrow the field. We have ballots that allow us to vote for top picks for an office, why not one that allows us to vote a big NO for the least favored?
Witless is bad but she is a rookie compared to Putzker of Illinois - The 450 LB Circus Elephant still has strict Covid rules across Illinois. Masks, limited hours for bars, the Public Schools are like prisons, etc.
Plus the Billionaire Putzker has signed sweeping anti-police laws to make all of Illinois unsafe. And he will be re-elected in a land slide.

They have allowed this governor to run rampant, and when she got slapped down by the people and the supreme court, they have allowed an unelected petty beurocrat (hhs director) to continue issuing mandates that can result in fines and imprisonment.

I agree with you. A buddy of mine was in the TCF Center when the republicans got kicked out. He went from being Joe Citizen to being involved enough to be part of the Mackinac Conference this weekend.
He approached the party apparatus with actual ideas and strategies to directly counter the get along mentality.
