I tell ‘em that those values are just like plugging resistors and capacitors of the right ‘values’ into a circuit: you get the results you want.
I do think that more could be done to provide equality of OPPORTUNITY to people who are disadvantaged because of location or family circumstances; it’s hard for someone born in a ghetto or somewhere where education and initiative has never been taught or talked about to compete with a kid from a good middle class home (of any color) who is inculcated with thrift, integrity, and self-reliance as core values. But the results will never be equal and it’s pretty straightforward to argue that point.
