DURHAM, N.C. — Two people died in a shooting on the North Carolina Central University campus on Saturday night. The shooting did not involve NCCU students, according to a statement from university officials.
Campus police sent an alert to the NC Central community after a report of shots fired around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday night at the Latham Parking Deck on East Lawson Street. The men were injured and later died in the hospital.
More than 5,600 attendees at the NCCU football game were placed on lockdown in the nearby O'Kelly-Riddick Stadium when the shooting happened. Surrounding roads were closed to traffic, as police actively searched for the shooter or shooters.
"Thanks to the well-trained, quick acting NCCU Police Department, no members of the NCCU community or its’ guests were impacted by this tragedy," university officials said in a statement.
Durham police are searching for a black Nissan Altima with tinted windows, and they are still working to determine the motive, the cause and what led up to the shooting.

One interpretation of this is that the university knows who the killer(s) is/are, and knows that he/they intended to do harm to "members of the NCCU community or its guests," and the "well-trained, quick acting NCCU Police Department" prevented this harm.
Another interpretation is that the police promptly cleaned up the bodies and other mess so the "community or its guests" never noticed and couldn't be "impacted."
Finally, what additional information do they have that classifies that event as a "tragedy" rather than an "incident"?
Haven't you learned anything from the past year and a half? They died from covid. (That was sarcasm to you Gators fans.)
They may have died of Covid but the real question is whether they were vaccinated.
The two victims were not students, they were not members of the NCCU community and they were not guests, according to University officials. That is pretty rude. They don’t know who the men were or anything else about them but they disowned them without any consideration. If the men were there to see a game, were they not considered guests?
At 75 miles per hour the black nissan whatever would be 6 miles away in 5 minutes. It doesn’t seem particularly useful to shut down the nearby streets.
