I can see a man calling his wife (the mother of his children)
mother, out of respect for her position in the family.
It doesn’t have to mean a reference to his own mother or that
type of role playing.
I’m not a fan of Pence, but there are times when people try
too darn hard to make something out of nothing.
It sounds like this was a fabrication too.
I remember a couple of rural families here in northwestern Indiana farm country who referred to each other as ‘mother’ and ‘father.’ Both couples had 4-6 children and it probably came from that being how they raised their children to address them. This was back in my childhood in the 1950s. And I recall a couple of great Aunts and Uncles in central Ohio who had large families and used the same forms of address.
Thus it is a family/cultural thing. And those attacking Mr. Pence for using it shows either ignorance and/or willful insulting of those who use it; especially toward a politician they don’t like.
The Left just twists everything.
What about using the Bible as a stumping crate to insulate yourself from the pole smoking rumors here in Indiana?
I dated a governors niece. Pence is on the “downlow”.
Google it.

This used to be much more common than it is today. I’ve heard it before, and it doesn’t make Pence weird. I wouldn’t trust him to be president, but not because of this.
It’s a made up issue.
