Schwarzenegger calls Newsom’s California recall challenge identical to his own 2003 win
NY Post ^ | 09/08/2021 | Callie Patteson

Former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger believes the atmosphere around this year’s gubernatorial recall election is “exactly the same” as it was in 2003 — when the acclaimed action movie star became the first person in state history to win a gubernatorial race in a recall election.

Next week, Gov. Gavin Newsom faces a recall election that was brought on by heavy criticism of his coronavirus pandemic measures, including stay-at-home orders and mask mandates. If more than half of voters support his recall, the Democrat will be removed from office and replaced by the top-polling candidate among his potential replacements.

The last California governor to be recalled was Democrat Gray Davis in 2003. Schwarzenegger, a Republican, made history by replacing him.

God I hope Larry can win..I want NewSCUM gone..but so many idiots in this state would rather live in utter filth than have a Republican in charge..that is how much they hate Republicans..that plus the folks who were bribed with a 600 dollar check will vote for Newsom, he knew, he knew how much it takes to bribe people in this state..meanwhile everyday you have crack heads roaming the streets of LA, screaming from the top of their lungs, chasing people with baseball bats, and throwing meth into bushes that end up killing dogs

This isn’t a good thing.
Larry Elder, if he wins, will be facing an overwhelmingly (as in veto-proof) Leftist legislature that will do its best to frustrate him at every turn.
That’s the same thing that happened to the Governator when he tried to reduce the power of California’s public sector union. After Schwarzenegger was thwarted twice, by the legislature and the voters, he just gave up and become the RINO we all remember him as.

The state has changed a lot since 2003. If this were the 2003 electorate, Newsom would be an absolute goner. The state has lost much of its middle class over the last 18 years, though.
Even so, my gut feeling is that even now in a fair fight on a more or less even playing field, Newsom would lose. But the liberal elite likes Newsom. And there’s been an avalanche of money to prop him up. Soros, Reed Hastings et al. are spending like there’s no tomorrow to keep this clown in office. Can the pro-recall be outspent by $100 million and still have a shot? We’ll see...

Newsom is the Golden Boy for 2024, they cannot afford for him to go down.

Arnold was crap as a governor and he’s been crap as an ex-governor. He’s also a self-declared enemy of freedom. That might play well in Austria, but it doesn’t here.

I agree to. The article is odd, though. Biden coming “next week”? The election is on Tuesday. In person voting is allowed but everyone has been sent a mail ballot. I suspect most that are going to be returned have been. Perhaps he’s going to have Biden come the day after the election to avoid the debacle of Biden actually speaking on the stump

Ahhhhhnuld in 2003 (while pretending to be a conservative to win a recall election): "I am a Republican because I believe Milton Friedman is right and Karl Marx is wrong! I read 'Free to Choose' and it changed my life!"

. Ahhhhuld in 2021 (as a private citizen showing his true feelings): "SCREW your freedom!!!"
