The United Nations Security Council is calling for an end to hostilities in Afghanistan and the establishment of an "inclusive" government after the Taliban seized control of the country on Sunday.
"The members of the Security Council called for an immediate cessation of all hostilities and the establishment, through inclusive negotiations, of a new government that is united, inclusive and representative - including with the full, equal and meaningful participation of women," the Security Council said in a statement Monday.
The group is seeking the "restoration of security, civil and constitutional order," discussions to find a solution to the "current crisis of authority" in the country and "to arrive at a peaceful settlement through an Afghan-led, Afghan-owned process of national reconciliation."
The U.N. body emphasized that the only way a "sustainable end" to the situation in Afghanistan can be reached is through "an inclusive, just, durable and realistic political settlement that upholds human rights, including for women, children and minorities."
The statement from the Security Council comes a day after the Taliban took control of the capital city of Kabul, the last major city to fall during the swift collapse of Afghan security forces.

The invasion of Taiwan could be the next catastrophe for the very weak Biden administration and it won’t end well for Taiwan or the USA. The US has a knack for abandoning their friends and this doesn’t instill trust or plays well internationally. Unfortunately it all leads back to a nation which has become morally and spiritually bankrupt, where even its own people can no longer trust their own government and the same dishonesty permeates their foreign affairs.
Of course Taliban agrees to cessation of hostilities.
All Taliban asks is abject submission to the new Islamic Caliphate.

We already have received our three warnings required by the Koran. In their eyes, we have been warned and we can now be dealt with as they see fit
Another useless and incompetent organization heard from. Didn’t hear anything from them over the last couple of months while the Taliban was attacking. Only after the Taliban succeeded do they call for peace and negotiations.
They usually call for the ceasefire when the good guys are fighting back.
Just lets hope China doesn’t decide to take advantage of our weakness and takes over Taiwan.
We are dependent on the advanced computer chips that are only manufactured in Taiwan. If Taiwan falls, so does the USA economy…There is little doubt in my mind that it had crossed China’s mind “What if?” And with a senile leader, what better time than now.
I bet our brilliant politicians never, ever gave this any thought. Even now, many unfinished vehicles are sitting in manufacturers holding lots waiting for chips to finish the job
