Put Northern Alliance in charge, in whatever way, and get out ASAP.
The Northern Alliance did most of the dirty job, and right after the win, we basically disbanded them and put them under the Pashtun run government.
Basically, we betrayed them, for our “nation building” ideas.
Pashtuns never had their heart in the government of Afghanistan because their allegiance was to the Taliban. So when we left, Pashtuns warmed up to the Taliban with open arms. It’s what they wanted. Other tribes weren’t in favor of their rule. But this time the Taliban have their soldiers up in the region where the Northern Alliance used to rule to prevent them from reemerging.
