KABUL, Afghanistan — Afghanistan’s embattled president left the country Sunday, joining his fellow citizens and foreigners in a stampede fleeing the advancing Taliban and signaling the end of a 20-year Western experiment aimed at remaking Afghanistan.
The Taliban entered the capital early Sunday and an official in the militant group said it would soon announce the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan from the presidential palace — a return rich in symbolism to the name of the country under the Taliban government ousted by U.S.-led forces after the 9/11 attacks. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to brief the media.
The militants had earlier moved into a city gripped by panic, where helicopters raced overhead throughout the day to evacuate personnel from the U.S. Embassy. Smoke rose near the compound as staff destroyed important documents, and the American flag was lowered. Several other Western missions also prepared to pull their people out.

Mark Milley was quoted three weeks ago: “Afghan security forces are now consolidating around population centers, Milley said, including Kabul and other provincial capitals. He pointed out that Afghanistan’s 300,000 troops and police, which the U.S. has spent $74 billion to train and equip, vastly outnumbers the estimated 75,000 Taliban fighters. “They have the capacity to sufficiently fight and defend their country,” he said, adding that a Taliban takeover of Afghanistan “is not a foregone conclusion.” Interesting that I heard the 300,000 figure from someone who ought to know but didn’t; the Administration this morning said that there were perhaps 50,000 effectives in the Afghan military, the rest were part of a corrupt ghost payroll. And the head of our armed forces didn’t KNOW this??

I know readers of FreeRepublic didn’t expect the taliban to declare it the constitutional republic of afghanistan, with freedoms, rights, and all that kind of thing that we once knew in the USA.

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Gen. Mark Milley and the Joints Chiefs of Staff all need to be fired. Every general and admiral in our military needs to be evaluated for wokeness. If found woke, then fired.

The American people let down our military vets who sacrificed so much. I am ashamed that I did nothing but sit at home while domestic enemies took over our government. I should have been there Jan.6th, yes I could be in jail right now, but at least look at myself in the mirror
