Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte (R) announced on Wednesday that he will direct more than $32 million of federal funds to COVID-19 screening and testing in schools.

The money is part of a $35 million allocation to the state as part of the American Rescue Plan Act passed by Congress and signed by President Biden in March.

New COVID-19 cases in Montana have largely stayed low since January, when it saw its second highest resurgence in cases since early November. On Monday, the state saw 92 new cases, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). About 45 percent of its population is fully vaccinated, per data from Johns Hopkins University.

I’m a MT native but removed for 16-years. The Governor is focusing “free” federal $ on testing in schools for those that don’t want to get vaxxed. Your choice: get vaxxed; wear a mask; or get periodically tested for in person instruction in schools.

Is COVID testing really that expensive?
I didn’t think it was. I know there must be a lot of schools but still, Wow. Not all schools will be full anyway, some parents will keep Kids home to Zoom classes as a health precaution. The lucky ones will be Home Schooled by competent parents or tutors.

I have a better idea. The Constitution doesn’t proscribe a right to vote, but Congress is tasked “To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the Militia, and for governing such Part of them as may be employed in the Service of the United States, reserving to the States respectively, the Appointment of the Officers, and the Authority of training the Militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress;”

Congress should provide a tax credit for voters to purchase firearms and on subsequent years provide a credit as a training allowance with proficiency to be demonstrated on election days.

142,000 students K-12
$225/student (assuming zero administration costs, bribes, kickbacks, etc paid out of the $32 million).

The Kaiser Family Foundation determined that the cost of a COVID test ranges from $20 to $850, with $127 being the median cost.
Currently, the Medicare reimbursement rate for a COVID-19 test is either $51 or $100, depending on the type of test offered. For those who end up paying out of pocket, there was a smaller range of $36 to $180 per test

So the $32 million will pay for one or two tests for each student for the entire 2021-2022 school year. Even at the low end ($20), each student would be tested 11 times are roughly once for each school month.

If half the kids have already had COVID or are vaccinated, then you could test the other kids 22 times, about twice each school month.

This strikes me as useless.

It’s ‘The Hill’ - my Governor decked a lib-tard reporter that was badgering him. He’s on the side of good.

We’ll see how this plays out but I believe he’s NOT going to mandate masks for schools (and may likely override local ‘health departments’ who want to).

Certainly planting the seeds for it...

Gianforte is in no way a rino. He is definitely in the Trump and DeSantis crowd.

He kicked somebody’s ass in front of a lot of people. Didn’t hurt him election time. Look-Tester is up in ‘24. That’s all we need to know-will he do the right thing?

What’s your question?

You think he should run for Tester’s seat?

Isn’t there someone else who could win.

Gianforte is a good guv.

OK bud. This is what the deal is: The senate is more important than the Governors office. It’s not like he’s eying the WH-I hope not. Give us a better challenger and I’ll say stay in the statehouse. We have bigger fish to fry.

If he’s the best candidate he should run because leaders LEAD. Hawley did it in Missouri 2 years after winning the coveted atty. generals office at a young age. If the best candidates don’t step up to the plate we end up with the Lisa Murkowski’s. Speaking of Lisa where was Sarah in 2016? You waiting for Jeb?
