A toxic blaze at the site of Australia's largest Tesla battery project is set to burn throughout the night.
A 13-tonne lithium battery was engulfed in flames, which then spread to an adjacent battery bank.
More than 150 people from Fire Rescue Victoria and the Country Fire Authority responded to the blaze, which has been contained and will be closely monitored until it burns itself out.
"If we try and cool them down it just prolongs the process," the CFA's Assistant Chief Fire Officer Ian Beswicke said.
"But we could be here anywhere from 8 to 24 hours while we wait for it to burn down."

And in CA, EV owners are switching back to gasoline cars cuz charging is a PITA and a low battery in unknown territory is ‘scary’. (A FR thread.)
I hope Musk looks into synthesizing gasoline at some point.
It is the same concept, and a whole lot safer. With modern catalytic converters and unleaded gasoline, it is even more environmentally friendly, trading in the same organic compounds that drive life everywhere on Earth.
Are the environmentally-ill outside bowing to the blaze ? Perhaps the environmentally-ill should survey the fire inside the fire ?
This is the great savings of carbon footprint from Tesla. Wonder what kind of chemicals this fire is dumping into the atmosphere.
Apparently electric car and wall battery pack owners are taking on the job of fireman Guy Montag.
I guess you could go a long way on a 13 tonne battery.

Last week, Calif officials told Calif Tesla owners NOT to charge their vehicles because it takes too much electricity!!!!!

Bad stuff, per an older FR thread. And, the water sprayed on it becomes toxic, and the remains are toxic and should be submerged in a water tub.

Probably just reversed a year of Tesla carbon footprint savings. Which there actually is none once you figure in the manufacturing output of the car. So this is just even more toxic icing on the cake. Once again this green thing is not so green.
And we knew that would happen. A few here actually claimed there was plenty to spare and it would never be a problem.
If anything we need to go diesel over electric. It has worked successfully for a very long time in Locomotives.
Probably to store the electricity from PV and/or wind.
The EPA has driven Diesel cars out of production.
