A valedictorian from New Jersey says his high school tried to censor his graduation speech, first making him remove parts about sexuality and mental health, then cutting him off as he spoke at graduation.
Eighteen-year-old Bryce Dershem, who graduated from Eastern Regional High School in Voorhees, told CBS News he originally wrote a speech about being queer and dealing with mental health issues, but Principal Robert Tull told him to change it.
Dershem said he spent months in treatment for anorexia and didn't even know if he'd be able to graduate, let alone become valedictorian. "As soon as I heard that [I was valedictorian], I knew I really wanted to talk about my story and ending the silence on mental health struggles. And really giving queer people a voice too and letting people know no matter who you are, you're not alone," he said.

I wonder if this kid was asked about why people really had to know about his personal sexuality.
This person presumably earned the honor. He should be allowed to speak his mind on how he got there.
Just my opinion.
Bttt
“giving queer people a voice”
My God, all we ever heard the past 40 years is QUEER, QUEER, QUEER, LBGT, LBGT, LBGT, PRIDE, PRIDE, PRIDE....over and over and over and over. Every tv show and movie is filled with them - you’d think 90% of the nation was homol
Can’t they just shut up and stop bragging about their proclivities? What “voice” do the normals have any more? They are shut down everywhere they try to talk about normality.
It’s time to just hand out the sheepskins and send them home; no more speeches from anyone, regardless of the issue.
LGBT movement is a terrorist movement.
The Valedictorian speech is supposed to be looking back and looking forward speech for all members of the class. It is not supposed to be a look at me speech. However, everything in the current culture is about “look at me”.
Quit being a queer, find a girl, be happy
So what?
Twitter, Facebook, the fake news media , Google etc etc regularly censor conservatives and President Trump supporters, why is the AP and the fake news media shedding tears over that?
So I graduated first in my high school class two years early.
I don’t recall chatting about how I wanted to bang the hot redhead in my class at graduation.
Whatever happened to the idea of communicating about one’s personal issues with a trusted friend or relative? Now we have an entire army of shameless clowns who revel in spewing their personal demons to the world at large.
The valedictorian at my school did something equally inappropriate. The thing is, kids at that age are stupid and believe whatever they think is so important that the world MUST know about it.
The answer is, don’t give them the opportunity. If you have a speaker, make sure it is someone you paid to do it. Not some kid who, for the fist time ever, has a mic in his hand and the ear of a thousand people.
You’re entitled to your opinion, but can this fellow use his valedictory address to talk about *anything* he wants? Masturbation? Pornography? The joys of drug use? Is anything out of bounds?
Not everyone wants to hear about this lad’s life as a queer.
Bingo!
I am so sick of this I could spit.
I'm not saying they should run and hide.
But can't they be discrete?
“Can’t they just shut up and stop bragging about their proclivities?”
These people KNOW they are abnormal and they demand to not just be accepted but actually applauded for their deviancy so they might be able to feel “normal” within their own minds.
If there were to be a pill a queer (any one of many types) could take to become straight I believe 99.999% of them would take it in a heartbeat. The ones who refuse are the ones who are not really queer and just want the attention.
So, can I talk about my fantasies about the cheerleaders pulling me into the showers with them, before the orgy? How about my desires of things I want to do with someone's daughter? Can I talk about movies I have seen, or perhaps my opinion on modern art? Probably not.
This "honorarium" is the chance to speak to, AND FOR the class that is graduating. It's not an ego boost to self-promote. It's intended to allow a student, who has demonstrated that they have exemplary scholastic aptitude, to provide the viewpoint for, his fellow classmates of the challenges they have faced, and the challenges that remain, to acknowledge their accomplishments, and to encourage the class to strive for greater goals.
It's not about self promotion, or sexual orientation. This is a person psychological issues who is demanding attention, about something that is NOBODY else's business.

Little gods.
We got em.
The real God is none too happy about it...bank on it.
why isn’t cbs calling this validation of anorexics?
