I took a cab in Rome a few times. Tony was fu—ing crazy on the roundabouts. Riding in the back of a Roman cab is not for the feint of heart......
I’ll take roundabouts over 4 way stops any day!!
There are four way stop sign intersection that run like a clock when the drivers are all competent.
The real problems are the drivers who are too stupid, too timid, or too aggressive.
There is nothing more aggravating than a stupid/passive driver “kindly” relinquishing their right of way.
You never come to a complete stop ????? He doesn’t follow the cars I do.
As a veteran of roundabouts (we call them “Rotaries” in the People’s Republic of Marxachusetts), I BEG TO DIFFER!!!!!
A problems I see here is that some don’t understand how to use them.
In my area, issues arise when someone tries to use the outside lane to pass e.g. is a four way two lane round about the outside lane is for turning on the next immediate street, while the inside lane is used to go further or straight on.
Most people I know hate roundabouts. I love then.
I hate to stop. Roundabouts are like doing a rolling California stop at every intersection. Half the time there is nobody else in the roundabout, so it is great not having to stop, like I have to at every empty arterial stop sign.
It takes some getting used to when traffic is in the roundabout, but I still love how I don’t have to stop. Works for me, but most people hate them.
Google the fatal accident at US Hwy 50 & Us Hwy 95-a this past weekend. AT A ROUNDABOUT.
Roundabouts were a European invention and really, really dumb.
I’ve seen people backup in them because they missed a turn.
I’ve seen wait, and wait, and wait at them.
The sign are confusing to say the inner lane and the outer lane must turn together, but the outer lane doesn’t see it that way. *crash*
I've always been a fan of them.
I also like the "jughandles" they have in New Jersey. Instead of taking dangerous left turns on busy roads, you have an exit ramp in the right lane that brings you to a traffic signal to cross over the road safely. Takes a little getting used to but it's a nice system.
I hated them in Ireland and I hate the one near my sister’s house. 😣
Roundabouts are only workable if the drivers are civil and considerate with each other and obey the traffic code. But if drivers were civil and considerate and obeyed the traffic code, yield signs would be sufficient and stop signs would be excessive.
But people aren’t civil, aren’t considerate, and don’t obey the traffic code, ergo ... stoplights.
They take a lot more space. Developers won’t like it. Can’t shove as many buildings onto the same space. Cha-ching.
I hated “roundabouts” when I was driving in Europe during my 2 tours in Germany and I hate them here in the US as well.
As long as you have 2 lanes to the roundabouts they work. If they only have 1, they are defective.
Also, most folk don’t know how to use the damn things. We have a couple around here, and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been stuck behind a moron who couldn’t figure out when to enter it.
Try the one at the end of the Champs Élysées that goes around the Arc de Triomphe while keeping the right-of-way rule (entering traffic has it) in mind...that’ll cure you right quick.
Plus, if there is heavy traffic, you can be stuck in a queue forever.
Truck drivers don’t want.
Around here you just take up two lanes before.
Gotta swerve back and fourth ahead of time to shake the cars from your side.
Ok, lets spend 2 trillion at that.
