Boris Johnson announces public inquiry into government handling of pandemic

A public inquiry into the government's handling of the coronavirus pandemic will begin in the spring of next year, the prime minister has announced.

Boris Johnson revealed the news in a COVID-19 statement to MPs in the Commons on Wednesday.

He said that the government will launch a consultation on its terms of reference.

SPRING OF NEXT YEAR..!! I don't think we'll have a country left by then.. In the big cities it's going to be a Looong and very HOT summer this year...

They can start with Professor Neil Ferguson and his fraudulent COVID-19 model at Imperial College in London. The same Neil Ferguson who resigned from his government advisory role after breaking the lockdown rules that he had a role in influencing.

I’m pretty sure the origins will not be part of the remit. I yet to speak to many in the UK that are even bothered about this to be honest.

The remit will almost certainly consider the UK’s preparedness for a pandemic - and then there was the science. Johnson relied upon “the science” throughout the early months - because it certainly heightened fear and panic. Later though we moved to more “political” decision making. At that point the opposition socialists played along with the government for the most part, only raising their heads to criticise the Brexit plans.

I give him 4/5 - and based upon our “town council” elections last week - the public support his efforts.

As long as we fully reopen society as planned on 2021-06-20, I think the public will soon forget much of the pain it suffered during the curfews.

p.s. it’s pretty certain the security services know the cause. We’re just not really ready to tackle that yet - and probably the UK would want to work alongside that with the US, once we’ve changed our manufacturing supply lines.

No, these independent inquiries do tend to be independent. What usually happens if the report they produce isn’t very flattering for the government is they try to resist publishing it.

I doubt he could get away with that though, its not going to be an obscure report outside public consciousness that can be suppressed without anyone noticing.
