A former Texas state senator announced Monday he will challenge Gov. Greg Abbott for the Republican nomination for governor in 2022.

Former Republican Sen. Don Huffines launched his campaign via Twitter Monday morning. He is trying to challenge Abbott from the right. On his website, Huffines calls himself “an actual Republican” and says he will prioritize completion of the southern border wall, pass election laws and eliminate property taxes.

I can name a handful of Republican Governors that definitely need a primary from the right.

Property taxes should be rolled into sales tax!

FTA

“...eliminate property taxes.”

This guy is dreaming. Making outlandish statements that will never ever happen.

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, a vocal anti-Trump Republican, on Tuesday accused House Republicans of “cancel culture” over talk of stripping Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) of her leadership position in the caucus.

Just out of curiosity, what makes Abbott a RINO? I live in Texas and while we certainly have plenty of RINOs, particularly in the State House, Abbott seems ok to me. While he may not be a firebrand like Cruz, he’s also nothing like Cornyn.

That’s what I was thinking. There’s no income tax here so I’d be interested in this guy’s plan on doing away with property tax.
Also, the Biden regime is continuing the purchase of private property on the border and I sure it’s not for the wall.

Maybe he means ‘statewide property taxes’ - except that we don’t have any in Texas.

You’re a better judge than I am. I haven’t followed Abbott too much. I thought he was pretty conservative as well.

Yes our property taxes are too high.

But thankfully we don’t have property AND income taxes like California.

ANTIFA and BLM seem to roam the streets and terrorize Texans with impunity. The Texas GOP at all levels should be embarrassed to call themselves conservatives and Texans after letting these Brownshirt thugs run amuck WITH police support last weekend in Plano and other cities.

Actually, Tennessee and Florida do a lot more like that.

The school tax in Texas is engineered by the state’s Supreme Court and not legislation. A judge says the top 10% counties with school funding tax have to pay for a portion of the bottom 50% funded counties.

That perverted approach doesn’t even happen in Illinois.

I guess he could order the State Police to step in when locals won’t take on these guys. Not sure if he can do more than that, or has the manpower needed.

Hmmmm, lets see under his watch his state has been invaded, BLM can pull guns and block traffic, and the big cities have turned cesspool blue. Oh and you can't yet Constitutional carry.

Like 90% of gutless Republicans he ain't worth the spit.

Other than that he fits Texas's oldest motto, all hat . . .

But thankfully we don’t have property AND income taxes like California.

Well at least they can afford to pay $61,000.00 a year to provide a tent shelter to each homeless person. Without income tax and property tax they wouldn't be able to do that.</s>

“You’re a better judge than I am. I haven’t followed Abbott too much. I thought he was pretty conservative as well.”

Understand, to me he seems to know how far to go without angering either side too much. He’s ready to sign voting reform and Constitutional Carry and hasn’t bitched about other conservative priorities (instead the legislature kills them). He’s also never endorsed any form of gun control (that I can think of). He’s also not attacked Trump, at least as far as I remember. He even knew enough to not run to Mexico when the weather got cold.

I guess if people want him to start a civil war, he does come up short...and therefore he’s a RINO.
