DRAPER, Utah (ABC4) – The day after his COVID-19 Pfizer vaccine shot, 17-year-old Everest Romney felt his neck swelling. In the coming days, he suffered from severe headaches. His mother, who tells ABC4 the pediatrician initially dismissed the symptoms as a pulled neck muscle, says she was convinced it was something else.
“He could not move his neck without the assistance of his hands,” says mother Cherie Romney.
Plus, now her son suffered from fevers and incessant headaches.
Finally, after more than a week of the symptoms, the Corner Canyon High School basketball player and his family had answers: two blood clots inside his brain, and one on the outside.
“The hardest thing was I let him get that shot. And he was healthy and well before,” says Romney. “But you question it, you can’t help but question it when it all goes wrong,” she added.
Her son plays competitive basketball seven days a week, which means high contact physical activity that could have possibly aggravated the swelling caused by the vaccine.
On Friday, Everest left the ICU, but his eyes are still swollen and the road ahead is uncertain.
Cherie says she has been overwhelmed with support not just locally, but around the country. People are praying and sending messages of love, which she says are holding her family up during this time. Going forward, she says she wants parents to make the best decisions for their children, and for doctors to understand this new vaccine might bring new challenges to conventional wisdom.
She doesn’t want to discourage parents, she says, because each parent must make the best decision for their child. Still, with her son now hospitalized, she wishes her choice had been a different one.
“It was pretty awful,” says Romney.

why give a healthy kid a vaccine? wtf
What kind of person gives a 17 year old kid an experimental vaccine?
I’m sure all the vaccine lovers at FR will easily explain this
At my job I’ve seen blood clots & strokes the past several weeks. Interestingly, the patients were recently vaccinated
Exactly.
Obviously, it can’t be from the vaccine. Any health issues arising up to twenty days after the vaccine is not from the vaccine, while any reason someone dies, regardless of testing, is from COVID-19.
Total coincidence!
Statistically insignificant!
Just a conspiracy theory!
Everyone just needs to take the jab and shut up!
How many people out of the total number of people at your work have gotten blood clots and strokes?
But at least he is safe from that 0.1% (if that) chance of dying from the coronavirus, if he caught it. Well, he’s safer, anyway ... for a few months ... maybe.
Someone who has abdicated their responsibility to make decisions. Through laziness, fear of responsibility and the example of the ostrich (head/sand) they uncritically lap up the dictates of any authority figure. They think that absolves them of blame until the consequences hit. Even then many of them have erected such strong psychological coping mechanism they have no ability to recognize either their own share of the blame not the corruption of the “authority”.
The Romney name connected to a Utah story jumped out at me.
BUMP!
Many years ago I had active arthritus, and was self injecting a drug to treat it with.
Used this drug for years with no problems.
The company I worked for changed health plans. New plan would not pay for this drug, but for a different injectible.
Shortly after starting this new drug, I had a stroke. I got lucky and made it to the hospital in time to minimize the damage.
My heart doctor and my vascular surgeon worked together to try and find a cause for my stroke. They prodded, ran camera’s up my veins, ultrasounds, cat scans... nothing.
They decided to do a procedure on my heart. This was a new procedure (it was done widely in europe) and after several weeks the insurance company approved pre op testing. I went for an MRI. I had blood clots in my lungs.
Both doctors then gave up and sent me to an oncologist. This woman was so thorough I was in awe of her. She found nothing. Then she hit the books, and discovered that the new drug I was taking had a very rare side effect. It could cause your body to start throwing random clots.
I discontinued the drug. Have not had a problem since.
No, I will not get the vaccine. I have no desire to spend another minute in the stroke ward.
“:the pediatrician initially dismissed the symptoms”
First, ya give a healthy kid a shot of crapola.
Then, when post-shot Blood Clots have been reported around the country, ya got no suspicion?
I am less and less impressed with folks using “Doctor”.
Maybe potential Surgeon General Doctor Jill can help?
I am glad that my parents, my in-laws, and I had the vaccine.
All of us had risk factors and did not have a 1 or 2 percent survival rate.
With that being said, my teenagers will not be getting the vaccine and I think it is bad public health and medical practice to give young people this vaccine. It is crazy to mandate that they get it to return to K-12 or college too.
I have consistently said this. Our “leaders” are apparently not nuanced enough to recognize and admit that the one-size fits all approach to Covid has been a failure and it is not warranted by the science. Add in the politics and desire for “fear” with our media and “orange man bad” crowd and here we are....
Objectively, it appears that young people are more at risk from the vaccine than Covid. This hypothesis needs to be further studied before we embark on another public health mistake and if they can discontinue J&J over 6 people how can they not discontinue vaccination of young people given the problems we see?
It was stupid to give the vaccine to a healthy kid...
It was stupid to give the vaccine to a healthy kid...
