“The Who” lead singer Roger Daltrey has joined the wave of rock musicians speaking out against woke culture and its effect on society.
Speaking with DJ Zane Lowe on Apple Music, the “Baba O’Riley” singer said that the “woke generation” is creating a “miserable world” for themselves and everyone else.
“It’s just getting harder to disseminate the truth,” Daltrey said. “It’s almost like, now we should turn the whole thing off. Go back to newsprint, go back to word of mouth, and start to read books again. It’s becoming so absurd now with AI, all the tricks it can do, and the woke generation,” he said. “It’s terrifying, the miserable world they’re going to create for themselves. I mean, anyone who’s lived a life and you see what they’re doing, you just know that it’s a route to nowhere. Especially when you’ve lived through the periods of a life that we’ve had the privilege to. We’ve had the golden era. There’s no doubt about that.”
Daltrey compared the woke generation with previous generations.
“We came out of a war, we came out of a leveled society, completely flattened bomb sites and everything,” Daltrey said. “And we’ve been through socialist governments. We’ve seen the communist system fail in the Soviet Union. I’ve been in those communist countries while they were communist. I’ve seen how ‘wonderful’ — really? — it was.”

The Who’s songs are fairly gritty and working class.
Not the typical sex and drugs shite.
Met him many years ago at a used record store, alone and buying albums believe it or not. Him and Townsend apparently do the same thing. The hollywood Silverlake area has a number of them. From our conversation, he does things himself and does not need an assistant for simple tasks.
Roger is quite the American history buff.

Agreed. There needs to be a free exchange of ideas. Open debate. Agree to disagree, etc. but “woke” folks won’t have it.
LeVar burton corrected the term “cancel” culture to “ consequence” culture They mean to make you pay for not towing the line. Soon we’ll have struggle sessions and the Left will celebrate.
The Woke Generation have no clue who Roger Daltry is.
God bless him. There are so few of us good people it’s so good to find another one.
Seen Daltry over some years and from high school days to later, he never failed to deliver.
His live performance capability is a marvel. Only in the last few years did he start to lose some of his gift.
He’s an incredible performer and I have tons of respect for him not only speaking out here but how he delineated it to the degree he does.
He would prefer it this way and would be insulted if a woke wimp listened to any of his songs.
Roger is a regular guy.

Roger played Hugh Fitzcairn on the TV series Highlander. He’s an excellent actor with great comedic timing. Nice to see that he’s also a “thinking man”.
Heh, yup, there’s another.
“Won’t Get Fooled Again” is one of the all-time great political songs. “Meet the new boss/same as the old boss” is one hell of a punchline.
