In all the modes of travel I’ve been on , plane , train or ship, the smoothest by far was traveling at depth in a submarine. You had no more feeling of motion than we have of the Earth spinning or going around the sun.
ridiculous
Hi.
May they rest in peace.
Wrench in the torpedo tube.
Happens every now and then.
See Soveit Union for details. Contact Yuri at the embassy in DC. He will tell you...

Who farted?
One would think that a country operating subs in local waters that included known phenomena that generate currents that push a vessel to lower depths would train it’s crews to detect and avoid such situations - especially if such phenomena occur routinely every couple of weeks.
They were doing a torpedo drill. Start with that. Then I would expect maybe an internal fire due to the batteries. While interesting, this wave action seems pretty unlikely.
My first thought was Indonesia has Subs ?
then I looked at the cia factbook
Indonesia has the world’s fourth-largest population. It is predominantly Muslim and has the largest Muslim population of any country in the world. The population is projected to increase to as much as 320 million by 2045. A government-supported family planning program.
Occam’s razor suggests a boo-boo during the torp drill.
What isn’t said is that as soon as they reached crush depth, the report from the implosion could likely be heard by modern submarines around the world. That loud.
If the torp detonated on board first, that would have been heard as well. So it was likely a torpedo door problem. Water rushing in is brutal to a submarine. The German submarine U-1206 was sunk by an improperly used high pressure toilet.
If the “personal effects of crew members floated up” it means the hull cracked open which means it doesn’t matter how many hours of oxygen they supposedly had left.
We'll never know - but by Occam's Razor their torpx involved a mechanical failure that flooded the boat.
Having talked with some in the business - there is such a thing as that wave.
The only problem with the story is that the wave don’t move that fast. The crew would have had to all be asleep on the job for it to take them down.
A high tech device full of Asian Muslims...
What could go wrong???
bkmk
Supposedly my grandfather was a submariner before WWI (he got a hardship discharge after war was declared because his wife had died leaving my aunt motherless).
I always feel bad for sailors who die in submarines, it seems you wouldn’t have a chance of survival.
May these men rest in peace and may the Lord comfort their families.
“”The wave was about two nautical miles [in speed]”
yep ...
“Right now, Captain Tupolev is removing the safety features on all his weapons...”
Underwater wave...the physics. That’s a new one one me!
