YouTube TV has been removed from Roku's channel store, after Roku and YouTube TV parent Google failed to come to a distribution agreement amid accusations that the tech giant made anti-competitive demands.
Why it matters: These spats happen regularly between Pay-TV providers and linear TV networks. But in the digital era, this is one of the rare times in which consumers will have a major streaming network removed from their platform's channel store due to a breakdown in negotiations.
Details: The channel will still be available for existing YouTube TV customers, but new users that wish to download the app from Roku's channel store will no longer have the ability to do so.
Roku is keeping the app available to existing users so that customers don't get caught up in the messy negotiations.
Earlier this week, Roku notified customers that YouTube TV may be forced off its platform if it couldn't come to an agreement with Google over a distribution deal. Notably, the dispute between Google and Roku is not over financial terms.

Google has their own Chromecast streaming device. Which I'm sure they you prefer you to use instead of Roku.

Can’t you just go to you tube directly? I have the app on my tv. I’d think it would be standard on all tvs now.
It would depend on your TV. Some older TVs come with some apps (streaming channels) already installed, but they may not allow the user to add new channels the way Roku does. I have a little 32" Sharp TV in the bedroom that is pre-loaded with Roku for streaming channels. This means I will not be able to watch any Youtube content on that TV.
I had Youtube TV for a while and the only thing they are good at is raising prices and removing channels. I left them because they raised the price over 60% and removed all regional sports channels. I prefer AT&T TV over them.

I’ll blame YouTube TV/Google. YouTube TV jacked up their prices to $65/month, losing any savings from cutting the cable cord, when you take your monthly internet service into account.
Unless I’m wrong, this only applies to the pay streaming service “YouTube TV”, not the original “YouTube” which many access for free.
We have ROKU. It’s just fine. Many programs and channels.
YouTube is expendable.
If you have Roku-TV it gets a little more involved.
I’ve been using Roku more.
Reruns of Movin’ On even though it has not aged well. The truck is still as much as the star as the two guys.
I have the Youtube app on my Roku and watch it more then most tv channels....
Right now it is working. I am in Calif.
Get Sling TV if you want cable. For $35 it gives you more then the cable company does.
I still have Firesticks, although most of my TVs have been moved to Roku. I think it is weird to cut the cord to save money, then buy a pricey monthly subscription, like YTTV, where you don’t watch 98% of the content, just because you can’t do without that other 2%.
Wish we could try something other than cable. Cable has gone up so much the past few years. A couple months ago, we dropped down to the basic line up and gave them back the box but are still having to pay more than before.
Problem with Roku is the internet (from the cable company) is not reliable. Sometimes it’s down more than it works and the company doesn’t care.
