They should stock stuff that doesn’t sell at all? That’s what those classics are.

Mark Twain: "A classic is a book everyone's heard of but nobody's read."

Yes, I thought of them immediately when I read that quote.

Many of the woke mob really have no idea how profligate they themselves are or how overwhelmed by the decadence and all its evil.

They are fools.

They allow themselves to be swept into evil by the circumambient society.

‘They smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made’

Sounds like Tom and Daisy were simply being Democrats........

Amy Coney Barrett’s recent $2Mil book advance (yet another payoff book deal?) portends a real “Page Turner”! Certainly to become an instant classic, perhaps she’ll spill the beans on how and why the SCOTUS masked Lady Justice during the ballot debacle. Before anyone craps themselves, I know Clarence Thomas has written several as well.

Get Real!! Our country is FULL of IDIOTS who don't want to be smart or learned!!

Yes.

It is also full of smart people who want to learn and understand.

The question is how to reach them.

Oddly enough I have become a convert to Podcasts and Youtube as a way of doing so.

There is a lot of trash. But there are also a lot of intelligent people who are putting out content for free that has real depth. And you look at the counters and you see a million views on a two hour long lecture on a classic book or a obscure bit of history that was only lightly touched on in school. Or a twelve hour calculus class.

People are not being forced to watch, they are seeking out and doing this on their own with no reward except that of knowing.

Quite remarkable.

"Henry Bemis, a bookish little man with thick horn-rimmed glasses wants only one thing out of life; the time to read. Reading is his only passion in an otherwise mundane existence...yet, it's almost an impossibility due to a shrewish wife who deems reading silly...a boss at the bank who's interested in efficiency not education...and the unrelenting hands of the clock. Now all that is about to change. As he does everyday, Bemis sneaks down to the vault to read during his lunch hour, but today when he emerges from his private sanctuary, he will enter a new world. A world that might or might not fulfill his life-long dream."

The classics have not sold well for ages, and most Americans don’t read. Or think. Joe Biden couldn’t have received 1/4 of the votes he did if the majority of Americans had brains.

Seriously...how often do you visit someone’s home and see a bookshelf with books in it? Let alone multiple bookshelves...

“Oh, and the Shakespearean phrase is “hoist with his own petard”, not “hoisted with their own petard”.”

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I don’t run this place, nor does the owner seek my advice, but I would really like to see a rule to the effect that corrections are always welcome.

“Oddly enough I have become a convert to Podcasts and Youtube as a way of doing so.”

Is that odd? Some podcasts and YouTube videos make me feel as though I am back at university.

I am learning new and interesting things.

It’s not difficult to find things I don’t know.

Ah.

Just be sure the things you learn are true.

Lots of misinformation out there.
