We should offer to host them and do repairs on them...
Put those ships in New Orleans and I bet most of the crews desert...

Right, but I was addressing why we see them on the other side of the world, not specifically why they are in the Black Sea.
Sorry, I was imprecise.

I think Putin barred warships from the Black Sea. Is a Coast Guard vessel a warship?

Back in 1941 the British sortied the battleship Prince of Wales and the battle cruiser Repulse from Singapore without air cover. Both were sunk by Japanese aircraft.
So if you’re gonna send out the Iowa, be sure to provide plenty of air cover.

My late uncle was in the Coast Guard and went to Vietnam and Thailand, but we had troops and ships there at the time.
Why we are in the Black Sea is poking the Russian Bear with a stick. Biden must want a war..............

Inappropriate use and endangerment of men and ships.
They should be guarding and protecting our harbors, ports and yes, Coasts against illegal and drug suppliers.

A US Coast Guard cutter? Say what?
Get that eff'n ship back into US territorial waters to stop illegal fishing by foreign nations, doing drug interdiction missions and saving American vessels in distress.

I’ll make a bet that a dozen Russian naval vessels are in the Gulf of Mexico within six weeks.”
It doesn’t take that long to get from Cuba to the Gulf.

One might also ask why does the “National Guard” and the Air National Guard deploy overseas?

Not to offend any Coasties but, seems like a job for the Navy. You are correct. The Coast Guards primary mission is to enforce maritime safety and enforcement, drug and immigration enforcement.
Their training and equipment is designed for that mission not for combat operations on the other side of the world.
This idiot administration is going to get them killed or captured. Perhaps that is what they want.

I'm kind of wondering what our Coast Guard is doing 4600 miles or so away from our nearest coast? Not to offend any Coasties but, seems like a job for the Navy. Extreme forward defense?

The point is to appear less threatening to the Russkies.
Biden canceled transit into the Black Sea by two destroyers and switched to one cutter tasked with saving people in order to save face.

Why is a COAST GUARD cutter in the Black Sea?
To: dynachrome
To bolster the US Navy which needs more ships afloat but this President will not do anything about.
