Back in 1941 the British sortied the battleship Prince of Wales and the battle cruiser Repulse from Singapore without air cover. Both were sunk by Japanese aircraft.

You are correct. The Coast Guards primary mission is to enforce maritime safety and enforcement, drug and immigration enforcement.

Their training and equipment is designed for that mission not for combat operations on the other side of the world.
