Remember Never Trump?
For four years, an influential clique of think tankers, Republican operatives and talking heads claimed that any conservative who supported Donald Trump was complicit with a uniquely malevolent presidency. But if Trumpian conservatives are responsible for everything the 45th president was faulted for, then Never Trump should likewise own the evils of the new Biden administration.
Never Trumpers spoke of the Trump GOP almost as if it were Saddam Hussein’s Ba’ath Party, a dictator’s discredited political organ, badly in need of a purge. “President Donald Trump leaves office with a crimson-stained legacy,” thundered Peter Wehner, vice president of the Ethics and Public Policy Center. “A similar stain attaches to those in the party who supported and sustained him.”
William Kristol, a prominent Twitter user, condemned Trump’s “enablers”: “They share the responsibility. They share the guilt. They ought to share the opprobrium.”
Many of these men and women embraced candidate Joe Biden. Biden, Wehner effused, is “an admirable human being, empathetic and generous in spirit.” Mona Charen, the syndicated moralist and former EPPC fellow, confessed she had “never been happier with a vote” than the one she cast for Biden.

It might be more appropriate now to call them America Busting Republican Turncoats.
It’s not really about Trump and it never was.
Bill Kristol and Mona Charen were probably lying about being on the right. They only cared about foreign policy.
I think of most never trumpers as being bought and paid for by the perpetual war machine, and cheap labor express.
That magazine cover will haunt those individuals till the day they die.
I actually think of them as sort of like Dan Aykroyd’s pathetic and smarmy tennis club pseudo-friends in the movie Trading Places.

Assistant Democrats, that’s all Bush League Republicans ever were or will be.
They sure as heck are NOT conservatives.
Some of us here on FR were leery about Trump early on in 2016 for that very reason.
They were right about the hijack part but wrong about the liberal part.
Just the type of Country Club Republicans I despise.
The Blue-bloods of the Republican Party have never been conservative and have treated us who are conservative, like step children for as long as I have been interested and involved with the political process. Goes all the way back to Barry Goldwater days.
They said they would never vote for him.
Never Trump conservatives …That phrase is an oxymoron. The Uniparty contains very few conservatives, probably countable on one hand.
Correct. The social and fiscal platforms they support are plain evidence of that, even before Trump became their Goldstein.

Consider Bill’s late father Irving. The so-called “neoconservatives” of which he was supposed champion were (vocally) against the Great Society, but all for the welfare system FDR set up.
As for Charen, one thing you’ll never get out of Barnard College is a conservative alumna.
Never Trump Conservatives? Is that something like cubic spheres or dry water?
Never Trumpers brought us the unsuccessful candidacies of John McCann and Mitt Romney (and 2 terms of president Obama).
It’s safe to say that Never Trumpers have not voted for a winning Republican candidate in over 15 years if ever. And they want to dictate who should represent the Republicans? They haven’t even VOTED Republican for president in over 8 years.
