If signed into law, the bill would require the state university system’s Board of Governors and the State Board of Education to conduct and publish an annual survey to “assess the status of intellectual freedom and viewpoint diversity” on public university campuses. Completing the survey would be voluntary for those in the campus communities.
The survey must be “objective, nonpartisan, and statistically valid,” and its goal is to find whether “competing ideas and perspectives” are fairly presented during lectures and whether students, faculty and staff “feel free to express their beliefs and viewpoints” on campus or in the classroom.
Another part of the bill prevents governing boards of public universities from “shielding” students, faculty, and staff from any speech ideas and opinions they may find “uncomfortable, unwelcome, disagreeable or offensive.”

DOA
My guess the results of the survey will be used to expel divergent thinkers. Our society is nearing the point where they will be jailed and tortured (reprogrammed). Nothing is beyond likelihood for the fascists who are coming to power.
I could see DeSantis signing this bill
It’s literally going to take going into the Universtities and firing a bunch of professors to get anything done.
I have a feeling that no matter what the laws say, viewpoint discrimination will be strongly with us.
When I wake up and smell the coffee I see business interests run politics and they see educational institutions as places to train current or future employees.
The public schools for younger people are child care for business interests as well.
Conservatives upset with political bias in education need to know that any notion that causes harm to educational institutions is unacceptable to the powerful interests that control Democrats and Republicans meaning all governments at all levels.
I agree.
The roots of Blaxit are real and taking hold. College is optional these days and very expensive. The Democrats killed higher education and now like San Francisco. Nobody wants any part of the liberal mess.
Viewpoint diversity should be required on campuses. That means faculty should be hired on the basis of achieving viewpoint diversity targets.
This effectively means Leftists need not apply to Academic positions for at least a generation.
The most important kind of diversity is diversity of thought.
Agreed.
Administrators.
I went to UC Berkeley in the 1980s and didn’t know anything about politics when I got off the plane from Philadelphia Pennsylvania
When I saw the Ravel rousing Leftside campus protesting crap I thought to myself “Gee. I think it would be fine if I just took all these people on myself”
So I would go up to them and I would say stuff like “I love Ronald Reagan”
Or “I love Ayn Rand - she’s an incredible author”
Oh boy! Did they get mad
In my co-op I was living in they actually tried to impeach me the first person in the 100 year history of the co-ops for anybody to get impeached
They said at the time and mind you this is the 1980s that I was probably promoting “hate speech”
Now of course I survive the impeachment by challenging them on “constitutional” grounds and “free speech” grounds and I challenge them over and over to cite anything on the record that I had actually said there was demeaning to any other human being
Now mind you this is a long long long time before cell phones
But they could not and so I confounded them
That and turning into the rush Limbaugh show in 1990 is how I became a conservative
When free republic came around in about 1995 it quickly became my very favorite website and still is
Thank you Jim !
Yes, thank you Jim!
Now mind you this is a long long long time before cell phones
But they could not and so I confounded them
Good for you!
