Agreed. This is not science, it's engineering.
So why should the engineering of the vaccine be any different from the engineering called Gain Of Function research that manually created the virus in the first place.

It's not engineering. Engineering works. An engineering solution from the Roman Empire or the Middle Ages will still work to this day. The only reason we (usually) don't use medieval engineering is modern engineering works better!
Roman science, or even last year's Science, not so much.
I wouldn't even dignify this flailing around with the title of small 's' science.
