Merkel Party Suffers Worst Regional Defeats Since Second World War

BERLIN (AP) – Two German state election defeats have put the spotlight on chances of a government without Chancellor Angela Merkel’s bloc after September’s national vote. A possible contender to succeed her said Monday that the center-right needs to raise its game to keep the country’s top job.

Final results showed that Merkel´s Christian Democratic Union was handily defeated in Sunday´s elections by two popular incumbent state governors: the Green party´s Winfried Kretschmann in Baden-Wuerttemberg and the center-left Social Democrats´ Malu Dreyer in Rhineland-Palatinate.

Not suprised, heard the CDU is in trouble, looks like the migrant crisis bit them in the butt, maybe a FReeper that is there can fill us in on the mood in Germany.

Bad news. What will replace her will be even worse.

Except that the far left is what is winning in their place.

Long discussion going on about replacing Merkel.

Plan A, cancelled...her hand-picked clone was dumped six months ago.

Plan B, marginally in effect, with a half-copy of Merkel.

Plan C, on the stove-top....the Bavarian Premier-President who isn’t that well liked by half of the party members.

Plan D, is hated to the maximum degree by Merkel, probably a German replica of Trump in a dozen ways, and will be blocked by all the pro-Merkel players in the party. Guy’s name is Merz....worth viewing his ideas on commerce and trade.

Plan E, basically the Green Party wins, and you get a pretty harsh four years of ‘green-power’.

She doesn’t care. Her ambition is to be elected to the EU government. Letting millions of “migrants” in to Germany is her ticket to rising rapidly in the EU>

Is his first name Frederick? If not, someone has some 'splainin' to do.

Are you serious? Did you read the article and see who her party was beaten by? Greens and a leftist party!

You don’t even have to go to the full article, it’s there in the second paragraph, but you couldn’t be bothered to even do that.

How could anyone possibly be worse than that traitor that flooded Germany with well over a million unemployable Syrians?

If Merz can’t be stomached, then what about Schäuble as an interim replacement while Merkel is shown the door?

The “center-right” in Germany is basically the Swamp in the US.

National election is in September. Probably two-thirds of the country sees Merkel as the least screwed-up political figure to have in the job. But a majority of the country wants some new fresh prospective...it’s just that they don’t see that potential candidate standing out there. If you go across all six big-league parties....there’s no one of a dynamic scale standing.
