I had the distinct pleasure of meeting MSG Benivedez in 1997 while completing the Engr Officer Advanced course at fort L Wood. He was a guest speaker to a bunch of engineer kids. He had a hard time getting around then.
He was a pleasant man and a willing conversationalist. He joked with me about my Infantry awards on an Engr Captains uniform- he said “must have been a different life” and when I readied to depart, he refused my properly owed salute but rather took my right hand, embraced me and said “Godspeed”.
Every time one of these hero’s departs, we are diminished. Thankfully, tearfully, we have many in the ranks, even today, growing into new hero’s.

Greetings to all at the Canteen!
To all our military men and women, past and present,
THANK YOU
for your service!
Oof! This one was a bit tough to read. It's amazing that Master Sergeant Benavidez survived such an ordeal. But he did, as did several others whose lives were saved by his heroic actions.
Brings tears to the eyes when you think about the sacrifices made by prior generations to preserve our freedoms & liberties only to completely lose all of it over the past 20 years...
George Patton wrote a poem around 1917 that very nicely predicted the cycle of “heroes” saving the day for freedom, followed by “cowards” losing all the freedom through abject cowardice...
We are now living in the endgame of cowardly generations surrendering all of our freedoms and not really caring...
Howdy, Kathy.
I see it didn’t snow very much up there today, at least not at the airport. Y’all got lucky with this round. Whew!
Howdy, luvie.
How was your day? You didn’t start it off by falling asleep in church, did you? :-)
No, but it’s a wonder. I managed to get myself to bed at a “decent” hour so all was good. But I sure was ready for my nap this afternoon. LOL!
Hope you had a good day, too!
Good evening, Mayor, and thank you for today’s sustenance for body and soul.
Did Ephraim enjoy his baptism?
Are you rested and ready to take on the new week?
LOL! Glad you made it without nodding off. I figured your naptime would be a little longer than usual.
It was a good day here. We had a lot of sunshine and that warmed it up enough to open the windows.
Went to visit a friend for a little while and it was so nice to sit outside not all bundled up in layers of clothing. I didn’t even need to wear socks and shoes. It was a flip-flops day and da tootsies just loved that. LOL
Wow, that sounds like you had the perfect spring day! I’m glad you had a visitor and y’all could sit out and be comfy.
Ours wouldn’t have been bad but the stupid wind was still blowing hard and of course, my allergies were raging.
Good evening, Janey...((HUGS))...are you home or on the “road”?
It WAS a perfect spring day. 75 degrees with just a little breeze. I’m glad we got a little rain this weekend to kill the stink from the fields so the windows could be opened.
I didn’t have a visitor. I was the visitor. :-) Her son and grandson were there and we sat on the patio watching the little one play in the yard ..... and laughed at daddy trying to keep up with him. LOL
I will say I’m paying for it tonight - - allergies are cranked up but I just don’t care. It was just too nice to stay cooped up.
Welcome to the Canteen. EinNYC...they surely don’t make very many of this kind of hero anymore.
Whining seems to be the only thing taught these days.
God Bless our military heroes.
I have a friend who was a Navy UDT, chuck teff, and he was the real deal, LOL he loved this sort of humor.
One day at work some bozo starts flipping around a butterfly knife, chuck disarms him and stabs him right in the lab!
We were horrified! how do we fill out the incident report?
In physical stature he was small. The man was a giant. He was a man’s man to be admired in the extreme. When it all goes to hell you want a man such as him fighting next to you.
