House Democrats' $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package passed during an early-morning vote on Saturday. The bill passed 219-212, along party lines. Two Democrats, Reps. Jared Golden (ME) and Kurt Schrader (OR), voted in opposition to the bill.
The 591-page bill is filled with pork, the biggest one being an increase in the federal minimum wage over the next five years. The current federal minimum wage sits at $7.25. By year five, it would sit at $15 an hour, assuming the Senate votes in favor of the bill.
House Democrats decided to keep the increase in the bill even though Senate parliamentarian said it violates the budget reconciliation process.
The bill includes another round of stimulus checks. Individuals making less than $75,000 will receive a $1,400 check. Couples earning less than $150,000 will receive a combined $2,800. As an individual or couple's income increases, their stimulus amount decreases.
Of the $1.9 trillion, $350 billion will go towards states and local governments. Unemployment benefits will provide Americans with $400 a week on top of their state-issued benefits.

This bill covers just under 10% of the entire GDP of the United States. In one bill. And they're not done.
Prediction: there will be another ‘stimulus’ and then another and then another, before this madness runs its course. The dollar will be utterly destroyed in the end.
Why not just cancel our IRS debts this year and call it good!
After all, the money we will be getting is OUR money paid in Taxes.

Yes, this money is ‘free’ in the sense that it’s not taxable.
I wonder though how many people who have been receiving the monthly handouts under the pandemic unemployment programs know those benefits ARE taxable as regular income.

What these knuckleheads in Congress fail to get is the stimulus calculation is based on 2019 income. How many people have lost their jobs as a result of COVID/Wuhan Virus? Anybody receiving unemployment now should get the maximum amount not based on 2019 income.
Congress staffers should not be getting 1,400 per week as they are employed. This bill should not bail out leftists states who did everything to tank the economy.
Must be nice to have people in your party who push things that their constituents want. I despise the Dems but envy how they fight for their voters.
