This generation doesn't acknowledge the amnesty provided the Confederates AND THEIR HEIRS. So wrong.
We inherited slavery and abolished it. We keep saying Civil War did it....but many states abolished it many years earlier.

Always remember, FIVE STATES remained in the Union as slave states as was DC at the time.
Upon the surrender of South, some of those states were still SLAVE STATES and did not abolish slavery until the 13th Amendment was ratified, eight months after the war ended.
