A majority of Kentucky voters do not want to see the Senate convict former President Trump of inciting an insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, according to a new survey from Mason-Dixon Polling and Research.
A slight majority of respondents – 51 percent – said they would oppose Trump’s conviction in his impeachment trial should the Senate find him guilty of stoking an effort by his supporters to storm the Capitol and disrupt the congressional certification of the Electoral College vote last month.
By comparison, 41 percent said they believe Trump should be convicted on the charges, while another 8 percent remain undecided on the matter, the poll found.
The poll, conducted just days before Trump’s impeachment trial began, suggests that the former president continues to pull strong support from the same voters that backed his unsuccessful bid for a second term in the White House.
Trump carried Kentucky in the November presidential election by nearly 26-points, marking one of his largest margins of victory in any state.
Trump’s impeachment trial in the Senate – his second in little more than a year – began this week, with House Democrats arguing that the former president had not only incited a riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 but had spent months laying the foundation for his false claim that the 2020 election had been “stolen” from him.
Trump’s lawyers, meanwhile, have maintained that the former president’s rhetoric surrounding the election is protected free speech under the First Amendment.
Kentucky Republican voters overwhelmingly believe that Trump should be acquitted of the charges, with 86 percent opposing his conviction and only 11 percent support it. Independent voters also lean in Trump’s favor, with 61 percent believing he should be acquitted and 29 percent supporting conviction, the Mason-Dixon poll found.
Sixty-nine percent of Democratic voters want to see the former president convicted compared to 11 percent who do not.
President Biden, meanwhile, is beginning his term in office with an underwater approval rating in Kentucky.
Thirty-nine percent of respondents said they approve of the job he is doing in the White House, while nearly half of those surveyed – 49 percent – said they disapprove of the new president’s performance. Twelve percent are unsure.
Biden’s approval numbers suggest that his standing in the state hasn’t improved much since November, when he carried about 36 percent of the vote to Trump’s 62 percent. Still, his lackluster support in the state shouldn’t come as a surprise; no Democratic presidential has won Kentucky since former President Bill Clinton in 1996.
The Mason-Dixon poll is based on telephone interviews with 625 registered voters in Kentucky conducted from Feb. 1-4. It has a margin of sampling error of +/-4 percentage points.
When McConnell retires it would be great to have their AG Daniel Cameron in the Senate. There is also Thomas Massie and James Comer who I also like.

Went to look for the internals but couldn’t find them. I did find a little special they’re running for certain states like Tennessee & Kentucky. They’ll poll 625 registered voters with a 4% MOE. The first question is $750 with a limit of 50 words in the question, and it’s $500 for each question after that. So this is nothing but a stupid push poll and it should be ridiculed and then ignored.
Kentuckians see that Mitch and everyone else in the Senate IGNORED the burning/looting/violence in American cities all last summer. They ignored when Senator Kamala Harris went on television news — their colleague — and stated, “The violence will not stop, nor SHOULD it stop,” and not until BLM/Antifa, and even people working for the FBI bring that same violence to the doorstep of the Capitol — oh, THAT’s when the Congress wants to find someone “responsible.” Then they pick the guy who has been picked on since even before he started running for office, President Trump. Under Trump, until COVID, Kentuckians saw the United States economy booming, jobs coming back to the Midwest, and NOT ONE WAR started, some wars ended. Yeah, we see you elitists in DC who never stopped collecting a paycheck during COVID. We see you. And it’s ridiculous.
I also like Cameron, Massie, and Comer.

The most influential politician in Kentucky is the traitorous scumbag Yertle the Turtle who bears the most responsibility for styming and fighting Trump’s initiatives when he was President. Would you and all the other sleepwalkers on this site who rave on about the glorious Rand Paul wake the hell up and admit that Paul is just another GOPee prevaricator and hypocrite because he voted with his other GOPee scumbags to accept the fraudulent election result.
At this point any statistical claim that is made about the 2020 election results is pure horsedung. We will never know what the true figures were.

If that was true, why do they have a Democrat Gov., one libertarian Senator and a Bush League Republican Senator (which is a Democrat in an R jersey)?
Every politico and media are ignoring this historic winter storm this weekend. People will die. Where is FEMA? Why isn’t the media concerned about the homeless?

Kentucky is a very red state that, unfortunately, has a very blue governor who is being investigated by the legislature for impeachment.
Comer-too white. Cameron will be promoted early just like Hawley was-opportunity. Massie? White but libertarian streak. he’ll replace Paul who is true enough to his Libertarian beliefs to leave. POTUS is a bridge too far. Perhaps VP.
I hope the Turtle is paying attention. Don’t like to brag, but Trump won our Pennsyltucky County by an even larger margin.
However, we can get a pretty good idea by looking at the official results in the three swing states where Soros Stooges or NeverTrump Republicans (but I repeat myself) were NOT in charge of the election machinery, namely, Florida, Iowa and Ohio.
I like them too, but Beshear will likely move up from governor to senator at the first opportunity.
